SCVTHS Environmental Club Makes an Impact
– The Environmental Club at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) has been doing their part to improve local communities.

Earlier this Spring, Club members participated in the annual Stream Cleanup sponsored by the Raritan Headwaters Association, Students joined close to 1000 volunteers who scoured waterways throughout Somerset, Morris, and Hunterdon counties to pick up trash. What they collected was then categorized, providing data that will be used to drive environmental policy both locally and at the State level, and then disposed of.

Another initiative sponsored by the Environmental Club was the Spring Clothing Drive and Free Thrift Shop, which put into practice the concept of reduce-reuse-recycle. Members of the SCVTHS community cleaned out their closets and donated gently used clothing. Club members then sorted the items and set up the “shop” where students and staff could browse the items and take home some new – to them – clothes.
Anything left untaken when the event was over was donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Continuing their commitment to environmental issues that impact New Jersey residents, the Environmental Club and the SCVTHS Rotary Interact Club joined forces to conduct a beach sweep along Cedar Street Beach along Keyport’s shoreline. Students walked the beach, picking up trash and other debris. In addition, Dr. Jun Cheng, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences ant Kean University, provided some insight into the ecology of dunes. “Students examined different types of vegetation on the dunes, including American dune grass, a native plant, and Asiatic sand
sedge, an invasive species, and discussed their differences in terms of height, sand-trapping ability, and their role in dune enhancement,” said Dr. Cheng.

Closer to home, members of the Environmental Club joined with students in the SCVTHS Culinary Arts program to host the Bridgewater Senior Citizens Club at an afternoon tea held in the school’s TradeWins restaurant. Read the rest of the story here: https://trst.in/LRaTO6

SCVTHS Student of the Month for June 2026 – Trinity Grover
– Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) is pleased to announce that Trinity Grover, a senior in the Welding program, is the Student of the Month for June 2026. Trinity is the daughter of Stephanie Torres and Charles Grover of Hillsborough.

Each month during the 2025-2026 school year, SCVTHS faculty and staff nominated students who demonstrated a trait that made them an asset to the school community. June’s theme is “Most Improved” and students were nominated for the honor because their hard work, focus, and commitment to improvement has enabled them to overcome challenges and make meaningful progress, showing that with perseverance and the right attitude, growth is always possible. According to SCVTHS School Counselor Jenn Nelson, Trinity was chosen for this honor because “she has been a great role model and a tremendous support to her classmates, always encouraging others and helping out when needed. Her teachers are very proud of all the progress she’s made and of the many positive qualities she has brought to our school community.”

Trinity’s hard work at SCVTHS has resulted in multiple honor roll recognitions for academics. She also has an artistic side, receiving an award from her previous high school for her talent as a painter. When she is not busy with schoolwork, she volunteers at the Hillsborough YMCA and has several part time jobs, including a side gig that allows her to use her creativity to design and paint nails.

In her downtime, Trinity enjoys writing poems, watching movies, going to the gym, and spending time with her family.

Trinity’s plans for her future include continuing to hone her skills in welding at Raritan Valley Community College, and then traveling the world as a welder.

Congratulations to Trinity Grover, the June 2026 SCVTHS Student of the Month.

Stop the Bleed Biomedical Lab! 🥼🩸
Recently, our Biomedical Science students conducted a Stop the Bleed lab where they learned how to take action in an emergency before professional help arrives. Using a Control the Bleed Kit, they practiced how to apply pressure and gauze onto a bleed without injuring the patient.

It is these types of simulated, real-world experiences that give our students the edge when it comes to career and technical education.

SCVTHS Hosts Career Fair
--Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School (SCVTHS) hosted its Fourth Annual Career Fair on Wednesday, May 20. The event brought together more than 300 junior and senior students and 49 companies, businesses, industry partners, and post-secondary education and training providers. The Career Fair provided students with an opportunity to connect directly with potential
employers and explore a wide range of career pathways aligned with SCVTHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Students engaged with professionals across multiple industries, including manufacturing, construction, healthcare, automotive trades, public safety, engineering, welding, HVAC, cosmetology, business, and many others. In addition, representatives from trade schools and apprenticeship programs provided valuable information on continuing education and workforce training opportunities available to students following graduation from SCVTHS. It also provided participating professionals with the opportunity to meet with potential candidates for employment in their fields.

In addition to the Career Fair, business partners and educational representatives met with SCVTHS teachers and staff to discuss current industry trends, workforce needs, educational pathways, and opportunities for future collaboration.
“The event was highly successful in connecting students with real-world career opportunities,” said Gerald Mazzetta, Cooperative Education Coordinator. “Our students benefited tremendously from the opportunity to speak directly with professionals in their chosen industry and to also learn about continuing educational resources. The goal of the Career Fair was to begin building valuable professional connections, and we appreciate the support from all of the companies and organizations that participated.”

🍵💚🌎️ The Environmental Club and Culinary Department recently partnered to host a special Afternoon Tea for the senior citizens of the Bridgewater Senior Citizen Center, an event centered around community, sustainability, and kindness.

Thanks to funds raised through designer soda and bake sales throughout the year, the Environmental Club fully funded the event. Students thoughtfully incorporated sustainability into every detail, from handmade recycled decorations to upcycled teacup centerpieces filled with succulents generously grown and donated by the Agricultural Department.

Guests also learned about the sustainability of tea, fair trade practices, and how to identify quality tea packaging. The afternoon was made even more memorable with live music and singing performances by our students.

Each guest received an eco-friendly favor featuring a reusable natural cloth tea bag and bamboo straws tied with jute and accompanied by the handwritten message: “Create Change One Cup at a Time.”
