On behalf of Chief Anderson and the Senior Command Staff, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Officer Nicholas Johnson to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Johnson brings a strong educational background and a wealth of professional experience. He earned his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Massasoit Community College in 2013, followed by a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UMass Boston in 2017. He is currently continuing his professional development by pursuing a master’s degree in cyber security and justice here at BSU.
Prior to joining BSUPD in mid-2023, Sergeant Johnson served as a police officer with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Police Department. He also worked as a full-time dispatcher for the Scituate Police Department beginning in 2020 and continues to serve there as a part-time Special Police Officer, a role he has held since 2018. Earlier in his career, he served as a part-time Special Police Officer and Assistant Harbormaster with the Cohasset Police Department from 2010 to 2018.
Sergeant Johnson has completed numerous specialized trainings, including multiple Power Phone courses, E911 certification, and APCO certification, to name a few.
Since joining BSUPD, he has continued to expand his expertise by becoming a certified Child Car Seat Technician, a certified Accident Reconstructionist, a Field Training Officer, and a G***k Armorer. In addition to his professional qualifications, Sergeant Johnson is widely recognized for his community-focused, exceptionally positive, can-do attitude. He has demonstrated outstanding initiative, leadership, and commitment to community engagement. He played a key role in launching BSUPD’s first annual National Night Out event last fall, which he planned and coordinated alongside Officer Locke. He remains actively involved in community outreach efforts and has made a meaningful and lasting impact during his time here.
In addition, on behalf of Chief Anderson and the Senior Command Staff, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Briggs as our newest police officer!
Brief Background on Kevin Briggs:
Since 2005, Kevin has served with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI), where he held the rank of Lieutenant. He is also a Commander with the METROLEC Bike Unit for the past nine years. Prior to joining the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, Kevin worked as a part-time Police Officer for the Rockland Police Department from 2002 to 2005. Kevin brings extensive training and certifications in crime scene investigation, DNA evidence collection, and crime scene photography. Throughout his career, he has completed numerous specialized training programs that have further enhanced his investigative expertise.
