For Emergencies dial 911. The Green Knoll Fire Department is one of several all volunteer departments that services the township of Bridgewater and surrounding communities. GKFD operates out of two fire houses: Station 1 is located on North Bridg

e Street and Station 2 is located on Dow Road. We operate seven pieces of apparatus. Station 1 houses Engine 34-1, Rescue 34, Tower 34, and our Tender 34. Station 2 houses Engine 34-9, Utility 34, and our antique a 1928 Reo Speedwagon. GKFD responds to calls for service 24/7, 365 days a year. We are always looking for new volunteers! GKFD also rents out its meeting hall at Station 1 on North Bridge Street. The hall can be used for meetings, functions, parties or other events. On Thursday, August 20th, 21 Fire and Bridgewater District 3 companies were alerted to a reported stove fire in the Bradley Gardens Section of town. While units were responding, Somerset County Communications updated the call to a structure fire, and Deputy Chief 21 subsequently struck the first alarm on Box 2101A. Deputy Chief 34 and Chief 24 arrived and confirmed a working structure fire.

Engine 21-2 arrived shortly after and stretched a 1.75” crosslay to the front door of the residence. Due to conditions, forcible entry was required. Engine 21-2 Operator and Squad 24 Operator then hand-jacked a 5” supply line to the nearest hydrant, and a backup line was stretched to the B side door. A second alarm was requested, and arriving units assisted with ventilation, hose advancement, searches of the building, and rapid intervention operations.

Our thoughts are with the residents as they recover from this incident.

A special thank you to South Branch Emergency Services, Inc. for responding to the scene and assisting with firefighter rehab services.
