Our mission is to serve the citizens of Brierfield and Six Mile with professional rapid emergency response and other services that save lives and protect property. The Brierfield Volunteer Fire & Rescue provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster response, and public education for a population of approximately 4500 over an area

of about 90 square miles in the Brierfield and Six Mile Communities located in both Shelby and Bibb counties

Brierfield Fire & Rescue and AmServ EMS personnel participated in ALS and critical care simulation scenarios between calls today. These informal training sessions help foster teamwork, communication, and critical thinking under stress.

The scenarios were proctored using real-time AI to generate realistic patient presentations, changing vital signs, and dynamic responses to treatments and interventions.

Sharpening clinical decision-making in a controlled environment helps ensure our providers are prepared to perform at their best when faced with even the most challenging clinical situations.

Please join us in congratulating Brierfield Fire & Rescue paramedic and registered nurse Will (Ethan) Laatsch on passing the Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) board certification examination!

The CFRN is one of the most challenging and well-recognized certifications in prehospital, critical care, and transport medicine. Earning this credential reflects Ethan's commitment to continued learning and to providing the highest level of care possible for the patients and community we serve.

Ethan has been a member of Brierfield Fire & Rescue since 2020. He works full-time as both a paramedic and an emergency department/intensive care unit registered nurse, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to every patient he cares for.

Congratulations, Ethan! This achievement is well deserved, and we are proud to have you on the Brierfield team.

Just because we aren't a primary transport agency doesn't mean our EMS providers don't spend their share of time in an ambulance. Our team will often accompany patients during transport to provide an extra set of hands or advanced treatments and equipment that may not be available to the transporting ambulance crew. This is another example of the interagency cooperation that takes place every day.

Today, one of our volunteer paramedics accompanied a patient to a Birmingham hospital for definitive care.

Today marks a historic milestone for Brierfield Fire & Rescue and for emergency medical care in Bibb County.

We are proud to announce that our prehospital blood transfusion program has officially launched.

Brierfield Fire & Rescue joins fewer than 20 EMS agencies across Alabama currently carrying blood products and is the only 100% volunteer EMS agency in the state with this lifesaving capability.

Research has shown that in patients at risk for life-threatening hemorrhage, every minute that lifesaving resuscitation is delayed increases the odds of death by approximately 2%. Bringing blood directly to patients in our rural communities means treatment can begin when it matters most.

Specially trained paramedics will administer universal donor packed red blood cells and liquid plasma to patients suffering from severe bleeding and other life-threatening emergencies. Blood approaching its expiration date will be exchanged with hospital blood banks to ensure this precious resource is never wasted.

Providing blood products is expensive, with the cost of treating a single patient exceeding $700. As a non-transport agency, we do not bill patients or their insurance for any care we provide. This program is launching as a 12-month pilot funded entirely by a generous donor from our community.

S200, R200, R203, and E202 responded with AmServ EMS and BCSO to a motor vehicle crash in the Randolph community this evening. Brierfield personnel provided advanced life support on scene before one patient was transported by Regional Air-Medical Services - RAMS to a regional trauma center.

It was another busy day for Brierfield. Volunteer crews of R200, R203, and S200 responded to six separate incidents in Randolph, Six Mile, and Brierfield.

As EMS Week comes to a close, we would like to thank the agenices we are privileged to work alongside every day with the common goal of keeping our communities safe. EMS is a system, often requiring cooperation of multiple resources and departments.

We are grateful for the partnerships, teamwork, and friendships that help ensure our citizens receive the best care possible.

This week, we celebrate EMS Week and recognize the dedicated team at Brierfield Fire & Rescue.

Our EMS providers are volunteers who give their time, training, and expertise to serve the citizens and visitors of our community. Whether responding in the middle of the night, on holidays, or during severe weather, they answer the call when help is needed most.

We are grateful for their commitment to excellence, compassion, and willingness to serve others.

Last night Brierfield EMS was dispatched by Shelby County 9-1-1 for a patient complaining of chest pain. The call was quickly upgraded to a cardiac arrest. High quality bystander CPR was initiated with coaching from Bibb County E-911 dispatchers. Multiple Brierfield apparatus arrived within five minutes of dispatch and immediately initiated advanced cardiac life support. A pulse and spontaneous respirations were quickly regained. Bibb County Sheriff's Department - Alabama deputies and AmServ EMS arrived and assisted with stabilization before the patient was transported to a regional cardiac hospital by AmServ with additional Brierfield EMS providers.

As we are in the midst of National EMS Week, incidents like this serve as a reminder of the critical role that high quality rural EMS systems fill. Your continued support helps make this lifesaving service possible.
