Protecting Brigantine’s Natural Beaches
If you notice posts and string installed along portions of the beach near the dune line this spring and summer, they are there to protect sensitive beach vegetation and help preserve our natural shoreline.
These protected areas help stabilize sand, strengthen our dunes, support wildlife habitats, and improve coastal resilience.
We ask all residents and visitors to please stay outside the marked areas, including pedestrians, dog walkers, and vehicles associated with surfing and fishing activities.
The protected strips were designed to balance environmental protection with public beach access, while helping preserve important native vegetation for future generations.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will also assist with monitoring these areas throughout the season.
Brigantine is proud of its commitment to protecting our beaches, dunes, wildlife, and natural resources, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

🚔 Burglary Investigation & Arrest Update

In the early morning hours of May 5th, 2026, Brigantine Patrol units responded to a reported burglary at an occupied residence on the 200 block of East Brigantine Avenue. Patrol personnel secured the home and confirmed the suspect had fled the area. Due to heavy brush conditions, Patrol requested UAS (drone) assistance from a neighboring agency; however, none were available at that time. The Detective Bureau was then notified and responded to process the scene. Officers determined that Theft and Criminal Mischief offenses had occurred within the residence.

While investigators were processing the initial scene, Dispatch received a report of a suspicious male on a porch in the Vardon Circle area. Patrol units responded and located the individual outside a residence. He was arrested without incident as he attempted to flee the residence.

Investigation determined that he had also stolen a handgun which was discarded nearby with other stolen property. Several additional crime scenes were identified throughout the neighborhood, and a large amount of abandoned property was recovered from multiple yards. Patrol and Detectives continue working to preserve evidence, identify victims, and return recovered items.

Residents in the areas of 8th Street North, 6th Street North, Quay Boulevard, Vardon Road, and surrounding neighborhoods are asked to contact the Brigantine Police Detective Bureau if they have surveillance footage or information that may assist this investigation.

Investigation has also revealed that several other homes and vehicles were entered by the accused, and residents are encouraged to review their properties and report anything unusual.

The Brigantine Police Department recognizes Patrol Squads 3 and 4 for their exceptional work in preserving multiple crime scenes, locating and apprehending the accused, and ensuring the safety of our residents throughout this incident.

Today, members of our Brigantine Police LEAD Program—Officer Findley, Officer Cohen, Acting Sergeant Rote, and Sergeant Powderley—participated in Brigantine Community School’s Mental Health Day. Our officers spent the morning engaging with students and reinforcing the core principles of the LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) program.

Our LEAD Program encourages students to strengthen essential life skills: making safe and healthy decisions, managing emotions, resisting negative influences, and building positive relationships. These principles empower students to navigate challenges confidently and support their overall mental and emotional well‑being.

We value our partnership with BCS and are proud of the ongoing work our LEAD Program does to guide and support the youth of our community.
