🚒🪜 Training Today. Ready for Tomorrow.

Your Green Oak firefighters practiced "throwing" or placing ladders at windows and performing victim rescues, building the skills needed when someone’s life depends on us.

These drills give crews the opportunity to sharpen ladder placement, rescue techniques, and exercise those muscles necessary to effectively maneuver carrying that weight. Repetition helps turn individual skills into a coordinated response, because every firefighter has a role when seconds count.

We train with purpose so we’re ready to serve when our community needs us most. 💪🔥

🔥 Space Heater Safety: Keep the 3-Foot Rule! 🔥

Save yourself from an unwanted visit from us, follow these safety tips. Space heaters can keep you warm, but they need room to work safely. Keep at least 3 feet between the heater and anything that can burn—including furniture, curtains, bedding, clothing, and decorations.

✅ Plug the heater directly into a wall outlet—never an extension cord or power strip
✅ Don’t plug anything else into the same outlet or circuit
✅ Place it on a hard, level floor—never on a rug, table, bed, or chair
✅ Keep it out of walkways and away from exits
✅ Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away
✅ Turn it off and unplug it when leaving the room or going to bed
✅ Choose a heater with an automatic tip-over shut-off and inspect cords for damage

Warmth is great—fires are not. Give your space heater space! 🧯🏠

🚲⚡ Ride Safe. Ride Smart. ⚡🚲

Injuries on e-bikes have been on the rise, so parents and riders, please take a look and be informed on safe practices. Remember e-bikes and bicycles on the road must follow the same traffic laws and rules of the road.

Before your next e-bike ride, take a few simple steps to help prevent injuries:

✅ Wear a properly fitted, buckled bicycle helmet every ride.
✅ Check brakes, tires, lights, and handlebars before heading out.
✅ Slow down, obey traffic signals, and watch for vehicles and pedestrians.
✅ Use lights and reflectors to help others see you.
✅ Keep both hands on the handlebars and stay focused on the road.

🔋 Battery safety matters, too! Use only the manufacturer-provided or recommended charger, stay present while charging, and unplug when finished. Never charge while sleeping or away from home.

Your fire department wants every ride to end safely at home! 🚒🏠

🚒⚡ Quick Response, Hidden Danger Found ⚡🚒

Green Oak Fire was just dispatched for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews investigated and used a thermal imaging camera to identify an area of abnormal heat inside a wall. The homeowner used quick thinking and shut off the main breaker at the electrical panel and exited the home.

The heat source was traced to damaged electrical wiring, creating a serious fire hazard. Crews were able to locate the problem, mitigate the hazard, and prevent it from escalating into a larger fire.

Great work by our firefighters for their quick thinking, thorough investigation, and use of thermal imaging technology to catch a danger that wasn’t visible to the eye. 👏

If you notice flickering lights, warm outlets, burning odors, or frequently tripping breakers, don't be afraid to call 911 and definitely have a qualified electrician check it out right away.

🚒❤️ Giving Back Beyond the Call! ❤️🚒
Yesterday your Green Oak Fire Department received several pallets of donated food, and under the guidance of Inspector John Kelly, were able to distribute this food to Gleaners Community Food Bank in Howell, Farley Hill Food Pantry in Pickney, the Ivy Table Food Pantry and Bountiful Harvest Pantry both in Brighton.

This food will go to families and people in need and help feed many as the weather gets colder.

Together, we’re not only serving during emergencies, but we’re serving our community every day.

🔥 Before the Cold Weather Arrives, Get Your Chimney and Vents Checked! 🔥

Let's make our interactions for the fun stuff and not the hot red stuff. As temperatures drop, fireplaces, wood stoves, furnaces, and other fuel-burning appliances will be working overtime. Schedule a professional inspection and cleaning before your first fire of the season to help prevent chimney fires and carbon monoxide dangers.

✅ Have chimneys, fireplaces, and vents inspected at least once a year
✅ Remove creosote, soot, nests, and debris that can block airflow or ignite
✅ Check for cracks, damage, loose connections, and proper clearances
✅ Make sure furnace, water heater, and dryer vents are clear and venting properly
✅ Install and test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home

A clean, clear chimney and venting system means safer heat, better airflow, and peace of mind all winter long. ❄️🏠
