June 6–7, anyone can fish Colorado’s public waters without a fishing license.

Always a good hang when Becca, our District Wildlife Manager, comes out to visit Barr Lake! Today by boat, we saw countless cormorants, blue herons, 21 western grebes, 11 pelicans, and 1 coot. We also floated by our fledgling eagle nest as the young eagles stretched their wings, preparing to leave the nest soon.

Barr Lake is unique in that the southern half of the lake is a dedicated wildlife refuge for more than 370 bird species, while the northern half is available for boating, fishing, and recreation. There’s just about something for every outdoor enthusiast.

Thanks everyone who came out yesterday for our annual Carp Fishing Tournament and helping us reduce this invasive species from the lake. Congrats to all the winners!
