Juan Cruz is an interior firefighter and the driver of 3027 for Tuesday Squad Nights. Firefighters who volunteer on Squad Nights follow a scheduled duty time model and are ideal when you live outside and prefer a set schedule. Juan is also serving as an advisor for the Brighton Explorers, where he enjoys mentoring and helping youth ages 14-18 learn about the fire service.

“What I love most about being a Brighton FD volunteer is showing up for people on one of the hardest days of their lives. We’re complete strangers, but for those moments we bring calm, do our job, and hopefully leave things a little better than when we arrived. Being able to do that alongside a crew I trust completely is what keeps me going and makes this job so rewarding.”

One of Juan’s favorite parts of being a firefighter isn’t the lights and sirens—it’s sitting down with his crew for dinner every night. “Those meals build the trust, friendships, and teamwork that carry over the moment the alarm sounds and we’re out for another call!”

Brighton FD and other 3rd Battalion departments came together last night for a friendly game of water ball. Thank you to Penfield, NY Fire Company for hosting and putting together a fun event. We stand together and are proud to be able to work together each and every day and serve our communities.

Josh Boress serves as both a firefighter and EMT for the Brighton Fire Department. To support his fellow department members, he also serves as a mentor for new volunteers to make sure that their training and orientation remains on track and to help them achieve their goals.

Like many others, Josh most enjoys the opportunity to give back to his community in a meaningful way. “I take pride in volunteering with like minded people that are always willing to step up when the community needs us most.” Making a positive impact and helping to keep our community safe are strong motivators!

When asked about a personal fun-fact, Josh shared when he was growing up one of his biggest dreams was to drive a firetruck. Now in his 40’s, Josh still gets a thrill when he takes the Truck out for a call.
