Josh Boress serves as both a firefighter and EMT for the Brighton Fire Department. To support his fellow department members, he also serves as a mentor for new volunteers to make sure that their training and orientation remains on track and to help them achieve their goals.

Like many others, Josh most enjoys the opportunity to give back to his community in a meaningful way. “I take pride in volunteering with like minded people that are always willing to step up when the community needs us most.” Making a positive impact and helping to keep our community safe are strong motivators!

When asked about a personal fun-fact, Josh shared when he was growing up one of his biggest dreams was to drive a firetruck. Now in his 40’s, Josh still gets a thrill when he takes the Truck out for a call.

Brighton FD spent Saturday supporting two important events in our community. A group participated in the American Heart Association - New York State Walk and another group rode in the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure bike ride.

The 2026 Lt. James Lyons Memorial Scholarship recipients were honored during the Fire Department’s June Business meeting. The 1st Lt. James Lyons Scholarship, which the Brighton Fire Department, Inc. administers, memorializes the life and legacy of 1st Lt. James “Jamie” N. Lyons, son of Marcia and Robert Lyons of Brighton, who was killed in action on September 27, 2006, near Baghdad, Iraq. Jamie was a Fire Explorer with the Brighton Fire Department, where his father Bob also served as a volunteer firefighter.

The 1st Lt. James Lyons Scholarship supports the life goals of the children of Brighton Fire Department personnel, volunteers, and career staff. In addition to academic accomplishments, applicants provide evidence of a commitment to community service and exemplary character.

This year’s recipients are Behr Dickason, Josh Stenzel, Zeke Zicari, and Quentin Howe. Congratulations and good luck with your upcoming studies!

It was a busy weekend for BFD supporting events in our community. We had a wet Saturday afternoon supporting Girls on the Run. Luckily the weather improved for the Lilac 10k and the Brighton Ambulance Open House today.
