Our History

Brighton Colorado was established in July 1887. During the first Brighton town board meeting they appointed a marshal to keep the town safe. Over the next century the town grew into a city.

In 1968 the Brighton Police Department added the Reserve Unit to supplement the twelve full-time officers. Reserve officers are regular police officers who volunteer their time. They have families and full-time jobs outside of the police department. They participate in the same training and have the same requirements as full-time officers.

Now the Brighton Police Department has sixty-three full-time officers and an allotted strength of twenty reserve officers.
