The Peninsula Pulse ran my statement today on this month’s lame duck session. Although Governor Walker signed all of this legislation, vetoing nothing, we have much to be optimistic about going forward.
For the first time in 8 years, progressive values have a seat at the table. A Governor who puts people first will have a say in criminal justice reform, investing in our public schools, our infrastructure, and our environment. And with a Democratic Governor in office after the 2020 census, the people of Wisconsin will get fairer legislative maps.
The acts of the lame duck session are neither forgettable nor forgivable (and will likely remain top of mind as they make their way through the courts), but let’s use that angst, anger, and adrenaline to fuel our fight for quality of life improvements for all Wisconsinites, regardless of party affiliation, hometown, or favorite Wisconsin supper club. Forward.
