Thank you to Peoria County Director of Emergency Management & Preparedness, R. Jason Marks, for presenting his "Sound Matters" program last Wednesday. Jason explained the process of how the county's many dozens of outdoor warning sirens alert residents to immediate threats - including what the sirens are primarily designed to do, the timing of when they're activated, and what different alert tones may indicate. Through questions and conversation, attendees gained further knowledge of outdoor warning siren awareness and emergency preparedness.

Old Settlers Days is setting up right outside the Library! Our front door remains open, but if you want to stop in this week and find it challenging to enter that way, you can park in the alley and enter through the Maker Space or Activity Room doors. (Remember, we are only open through Wednesday this week).

How many issues can you spot in our community recycling bin? ♻

(Hint - hoola hoop, plastic bag (and birdseed), chair, grass, boxes that haven't been broken down)

Please help us by:
-Reviewing the list of what can be recycled posted on our enclosure and only leaving recyclable materials in our bin
-Breaking down cardboard boxes so your neighbor's recycling fits in too
-Cleaning out your containers before recycling - Eagle Recycling employees sort your recycling by hand

Now is a great time to donate to our Seed Library! 🌺🌿🍅🥕
BPL would greatly appreciate any extra seeds from your gardens this year. Please make sure all seeds are dry and sealed tightly in zip top baggies or paper envelopes. Clearly write/label the seed type/variety on your packet(s) and do not mix different seeds. Just drop off your donations to us at the Circulation Desk and we will take it from there!

Our Seed Library is a free, community-powered way to share seeds, grow food and flowers, and keep local gardening thriving. You're invited to take seeds, grow them at home, and save seeds to share back with others.

NEW SUBSCRIPTION ALERT!
We are please to share with our patrons that Brimfield Public Library now carries Naval History Magazine, the most fascinating journal of its kind seeking to educate, preserve, and share naval history. This bimonthly publication, produced by the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI), is dedicated to preserving, exploring, and illuminating global maritime heritage.

Tonight we will be joined by R. Jason Marks, Peoria County Director of Emergency Management & Preparedness for the presentation Sound Matters. With over 30 years of public health and emergency preparedness experience, Jason has led the county through numerous large-scale incidents including the COVID-19 pandemic, major flooding events along the Illinois River, and regional tornado outbreaks. He began his career in environmental health before transitioning into preparedness, where he has since spearheaded planning, response coordination, and hazard mitigation efforts. Jason has been recognized with multiple awards for innovation and excellence by the Illinois Department of Public Health and is recipient of the 2025 Peoria City/Co. Health Department Public Leader Award.

Beyond his operational leadership, Jason actively contributes to local and national preparedness efforts through advisory boards, workgroups, and professional training development. He chairs several regional preparedness coalitions and planning committees, has developed and led dozens of community and corporate emergency exercises, and frequently presents at national preparedness summits. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Jason has participated in extensive continuing education and leadership training, bringing both deep technical knowledge and strategic foresight to public health emergency management.

Jason is looking forward to an informative and interactive conversation with the community. You are encouraged to offer input and ask questions! The program starts at 6:30 pm here at the Library. This program is free and intended for adult patrons 18+. No registration is needed.

Many thanks to Rochelle Gridley of the McLean County Museum of History Speakers Bureau, for presenting "The Orphan Train in McLean County" program last night. Letters of both happiness and heartache from children of the Orphan Trains who resided in Central Illinois in the mid-to-late 1800s and early 1900s were just a part of the experiences that Rochelle detailed in her informative presentation.
