Stay safe and stay warm! ❄️🏠
With all the heavy snow we’ve been getting, we know many of you are out there clearing off your roofs to protect your homes. While you're at it, there’s one life-saving step you can’t afford to skip.
⚠️ Check Your Vents
When snow piles up—or when you shovel it off the roof—it can easily block the intake and exhaust vents for your furnace and water heater.
The Danger: If these vents are blocked, deadly Carbon Monoxide (CO) can back up into your home instead of escaping outside.
The Fix: Take five minutes to clear the area around any pipes or vents sticking out of your roof or the side of your house.
🚨 Protect Your Family
Carbon monoxide is a "silent killer" because you can't see, smell, or taste it.
Test Your Alarms: Make sure you have working CO detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.
Fresh Batteries: If your detector is chirping or it’s been more than 5–7 years, it’s time for a replacement.
Remember: If your CO alarm sounds, get everyone outside into the fresh air immediately and call 911.
Stay safe out there, neighbors! If you have elderly neighbors, consider checking their vents for them too. 🛡️🔥

❄️ SNOWMOBILERS: HELP US FIND YOU FAST ❄️
​After responding to two snowmobile accidents this past weekend, Bay Mills Twp. Fire-Rescue is asking all riders to take one simple step before heading out on the trails: Download the "what3words" app.
​When an emergency happens deep in the woods or on an unmapped trail, "near the big pine tree" or "about 5 miles out" makes it very difficult for rescue crews to pin down your location. In freezing temperatures, every minute counts.

​📍 How it works:
​The app has divided the entire world into 3-meter squares and given each one a unique combination of three random words.
​No Data Needed: It works offline using your phone’s GPS.
​Precision: It gives us your exact location within a 10-foot square.
​Simple: You just read the three words to the 911 dispatcher.

As we roll the clocks back this weekend for , it’s also a great reminder to test your smoke alarms!
✅ Have a 10-year alarm? No need to change the battery — just press the test button to make sure it’s working.
🔋 Older alarm? Go ahead and swap out those batteries while you’re at it.
🏠 Bonus tip: Check that you have alarms in every bedroom and on every level of your home.
A quick test today could save a life tomorrow.
