Always ready! 🛟

Coast Guard Station Philadelphia has had a busy summer helping provide security for the FIFA World Cup and America250 events, as well as responding to multiple search and rescue cases. Here one of their 29' Response Boats Small patrols off downtown . 👀

Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay has oversight of operations throughout the region and its primary missions include Search and Rescue, Marine Safety, Ports and Waterways Coastal Security, Marine Environmental Protection, Aids to Navigation, Maritime Law Enforcement, and Recreational Boating Safety. 🔱

When someone joins the Auxiliary, there are a few different classifications that one can have. Everyone starts with Application Pending (AP). After completing some mandatory training, they move to Basically Qualified (BQ) status; in this status, they can start to hold offices and become qualified in different missions, like Boat Crew, instructor, vessel examiner, and more. Most members remain in BQ status their lifetime with the Auxiliary.

However, there is a number of members who reach the Operational Auxiliarist (AUXOP) status; at this point, members have become knowledge experts in operations. An auxiliary member does not need to be in operations to become AUXOP. This is awarded to Auxiliary members who have taken so many specialty courses and other elective courses within the AUXOP program.

You've seen our patrol boats out on the water covering your six; what you don't see is the Telecommunications Operators behind the scenes who have the boat's six.

TCO's are the eyes and ears on land who stand the radio guard for our patrol boats. Our area is fortunate to have a Search and Rescue Detachment (SARDET) in Bordentown, NJ, where the TCO's man the radios and are trained to assist with SAR cases.

Our Boat Crews undertake a variety of missions in tandem with the active duty Coast Guard! One of the ways in which we assist is by taking part in training evolutions with the AST Rescue Swimmers, allowing them to best fulfill their unofficial motto, So Others May Live.

One of the most critical pieces of gear you can have on your vessel is an anchor ⚓️

Not only can it be used to give you peace of mind while relaxing at the sandbar, it can also be used to stop your vessel from colliding while rocks in the event of engine failure.

Always inspect your gear before and after your boating adventures to prevent any unexpected surprises from holding you back.
