Social connections are so important for our mental health – at every age. We loved reading this article in CT Insider about a group of Norwalk men in their 80s who have formed a friendship circle. Residents of Maplewood at Strawberry Hill, they call themselves the Strawberry Hill Gang!

Today is Senior Citizens Day – although we’d prefer to call it Older Adults Day! 😉

At CCC, we recognize the richness of lived experience that older adults bring to our communities. It’s our honor to help our clients access the services and supports they need to stay healthy and secure, aging well where they most want to be – at home.

Time to talk about aging well! Sleep is essential for good health, but as many as 1 in 3 adults report not getting enough. If you’re having trouble getting your 💤, these tips might help.

⏰ Stick to a schedule. You’ve probably heard this before, but going to bed and getting up at about the same time every day really does help our bodies maintain a natural sleep cycle.

🛏️ Save your bedroom for sleep. Train your brain to associate getting into bed with going to sleep – resist the temptation to eat, work, or watch tv in bed.

🧘 Develop a wind-down ritual. Calm your mind with a soothing before-bed activity, like taking a bath, doing some mindful breathing, or listening to relaxing music.

📱 Avoid the scroll. The blue light from digital devices disrupts our circadian rhythms, especially within an hour of bedtime. And media consumption can also disrupt our calm!

Tell us, what are your favorite tips for getting a good night’s sleep?

Happy birthday to the ! 🎂 On this day 36 years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, mandating equal access to all areas of life for people with disabilities.

CCC is proud to support people with disabilities, as well as older adults, through Money Follows the Person. Administered by the Connecticut Department of Social Services, this program helps people transition from institutional settings back to the place many most want to be – home. Learn more about it (as well as other home support resources) at https://www.myplacect.org/

Every successful transition home represents more than a change of address. It represents choice, accessibility, and the right to participate fully in community life.
