Honoring Trooper Raymond Bailey Sr.

If you noticed a large law enforcement presence this morning in the South Main Street and Church Street area, it was in honor of the funeral procession for Trooper Raymond Bailey Sr.

Trooper Bailey dedicated 20 years of service to the State of New Hampshire, including many years patrolling the Bristol and Newfound Region. Beyond his service as a New Hampshire State Trooper, he was a valued member of our community who raised his family here in Bristol and left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Out of respect for his dedicated service to both the State of New Hampshire and the Town of Bristol, members of the New Hampshire State Police, New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, and the Bristol Police Department came together to honor him as he was laid to rest.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Bailey family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest easy, Trooper Bailey. Thank you for your service and your commitment to the people of New Hampshire. You will not be forgotten. 🇺🇸💙

Update, West Shore is open. Great work by the Bristol NH Fire Department and responding towns!

🚨 Traffic Alert – Please Avoid the Area 🚨

Please avoid West Shore Road, just east of Shackett’s Store, as the Bristol Fire Department is currently responding to a second-alarm structure fire.

Please do not travel to the area to watch the incident. Additional traffic only creates congestion and makes it more difficult for emergency responders to access the scene safely.

Residents: If you live west of Manor Estates, you will not be able to get through at this time. Please use an alternate route or delay your travel until the incident is under control.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as emergency personnel work to bring this incident under control.

🐻 Never a Dull Moment in Bristol! 🐻

You never know what a shift with the Bristol Police Department will bring!

Today, Lt. Woodward and Chief Bean responded to a report of a young black bear cub with its head stuck inside a plastic jug. When they arrived, it quickly became clear that the cub’s mother was staying close by and wasn’t about to leave her little one.

While waiting for a New Hampshire Fish and Game biologist to arrive, an opportunity presented itself. With the mother bear briefly distracted, Lt. Woodward safely grabbed the cub and placed it in his cruiser before transporting it a short distance away to a safe location.

Once there, Lt. Woodward carefully held the cub while Chief Bean cut the plastic jug free from around its head. As soon as it was released, the cub took off running into the woods, where it was soon reunited with its mother.

A great outcome for everyone involved—and a reminder to properly dispose of containers and trash. Items like plastic jugs can become dangerous traps for curious wildlife.

We’re happy this story had a bear-y happy ending! 🐻❤️

🚔🤝🚒 Training Together. Responding Together.

Today, every member of the Bristol Police Department successfully completed Basic ASIM (Active Shooter Incident Management) Training alongside our partners from the Bristol NH Fire Department and the Alexandria NH Police.

A special thank you to Deputy Chief Heath for leading an outstanding class and sharing his expertise. Training together strengthens the coordination, communication, and incident command between our agencies, ensuring we are prepared to work as one team should an active shooter or other critical incident ever occur in our community.

Joint training like this builds stronger partnerships and enhances our ability to provide the safest and most effective response possible for the residents and visitors of our communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated and to the Bristol Fire Department and Alexandria Police Department for your continued partnership. Together, we are better prepared to serve and protect.

🚨 Bristol Town-Wide Yard Sale – Please Help Keep Everyone Safe! 🚨

Tomorrow is Bristol’s annual Town-Wide Yard Sale, and we expect a large number of shoppers and increased foot traffic throughout our downtown.

Please help make the day safe for everyone:

🚗 Drivers:
• Slow down and drive with caution.
• Stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks.
• Do not stop or park in a way that blocks traffic. Please find a safe, legal parking location that is completely off the roadway.

🚶 Pedestrians:
• Please use the designated crosswalks whenever possible and remain alert while crossing.

Our crossing guard, Harold, will be stationed at the crosswalk in front of the Bristol Public Library to assist pedestrians and help keep traffic moving safely.

We hope everyone has a great time exploring the many yard sales throughout town. Thank you for doing your part to keep this community event safe and enjoyable for all!

PUBLIC NOTICE: ROAD CLOSURE

Road Closure – Hillside Avenue; between Green Street and North Main Street

Please be advised that Hillside Avenue in Bristol will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, July 15, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The temporary road closure is necessary to allow crews to repair a water leak safely and efficiently.

Motorists are asked to use alternate. Local access will be maintained whenever possible.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this necessary repair is completed.

🎆 Parking Option for Bristol Fireworks! 🎆

The Bristol Police Department would like to thank Village Local Kitchen for supporting our community during this year’s fireworks celebration.

To help ease parking congestion, Village Local Kitchen has generously opened their field to the public for free parking. From there, visitors can enjoy a short walk along the bike path to Shore Drive and the fireworks festivities.

We greatly appreciate local businesses like Village Local Kitchen stepping up to help make community events more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

If you choose to park there, please be respectful of the property, follow any posted signs, and help us keep the area clean.

🇺🇸 It’s another exciting weekend in Bristol! 🇺🇸

We are excited to welcome back the members of Swim With A Mission, including the Navy SEALs, volunteers, and swimmers, for another incredible weekend. Best of luck to everyone participating—we’re proud to host such an inspiring event!

As always, we ask everyone to plan ahead and help us keep traffic moving safely.

🚗 Wellington State Park Traffic
Each weekend we continue to experience significant traffic backups on West Shore Road at the entrance to Wellington State Park.

If you have a reservation for the park, please do not arrive early. Vehicles cannot block traffic while waiting for the park to open. Any vehicle stopped or blocking traffic on West Shore Road will be required to move and may be towed if necessary.

🚤 Boat Ramp Parking Reminders
We’ve also experienced ongoing issues with trailer parking. Please remember:
• No trailer parking in the beach parking lots.
• No saving trailer parking spaces.
• Do not place chairs, cones, or other items in trailer spaces to reserve them.

Trailer parking is first come, first served after you have launched your boat.

Please note that the rules for Wellington State Park are established by the State Parks system, and the boat ramp regulations are managed by NH Fish and Game. If you have questions or concerns regarding those rules, please contact those agencies directly. The Bristol Police Department responds to emergency calls and assists with public safety, but we do not establish or modify these regulations.

🎆 Fireworks – Saturday at Dusk
Please keep these traffic changes in mind:
• Shore Drive will close to all vehicle traffic at 4:00 PM.
• No vehicles may park on Shore Drive after 4:00 PM.
• Please obey all temporary No Parking signs. These areas are designated to keep traffic flowing and to ensure emergency vehicles can get where they need to go.

🌭 Food Vendors
Food vendors will be available at both town beaches throughout the festivities.

We understand many have asked why Bristol’s fireworks are being held one week after the Fourth of July. Due to the nationwide celebration of America’s 250th Birthday, this was the only weekend available for the fireworks display.

🛍️ While you’re in town, be sure to visit Bristol’s Open Air Market, now located at 825 Lake Street, offering a larger event space with plenty to enjoy.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to keep Bristol safe during another busy summer weekend.
