Bristol Water and Sewer Department The Bristol Water & Sewer Department provides potable water to the residents in the City of Bristol. Our water comes from 6 reservoirs and 3 well fields.

The Bristol Water Department is a department of the City of Bristol. We provide Public Drinking Water and Fire Protection to approximately 90% of the City of Bristol. The Bristol Water Department consists of four divisions - Water Treatment, Metering and Cross-Connections, Construction and Office. The department has 36 full time employees and is overseen by the Board of Water Commissioners. Our di

stribution system staff manages over 300 miles of water mains, 18,000 service connections, and 1,400 public fire hydrants. The department owns and maintains over 5,000 acres of watershed in Bristol, Burlington, Harwinton and Plymouth. Our staff holds many State of Connecticut Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Cross-Connection and Backflow Preventer Testing licenses.

On Monday, June 15, 2026, the Bristol Water and Sewer Department will continue our 2026 hydrant flushing season. We will be flushing on the East Side and the West Side simultaneously. We will continue flushing these areas until the next area is posted.

The following areas may be affected:

West Side
Palmorr Place, Wildewood Run, Jerome Avenue, Maple Avenue, Juniper Road, Fox Den Road, Jerome Avenue, Willow Brook Road, Edrow Road, Loveland Lane, Miller Road, Wolcott Street, High Ridge Run, Old Orchard Road, Witches Rock Road, and some of the surrounding areas.

East Side
Broad Street, Central Street, East Main Street, Central Street, Gina Street, Kenney Street, Lincoln Avenue, Pine Street, Lyons Road, Redstone Street, Marion Street, Overlook Avenue, Rogers Road, Wooster Court, Washington Street, Twining Street, Anderson Avenue, and some of the surrounding areas.

We will flush hydrants on these streets and the adjacent areas starting at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m., to allow customers to run their cold water until it runs clear. Low pressure and discolored water are to be expected during flushing and for short periods afterwards. We recommend you refrain from washing clothes during this period. You should run an outside faucet or the cold water in your bathtub until the water runs clear.

East Side

We will flush hydrants on these streets and the adjacent areas starting at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m., to allow customers to run their cold water until it runs clear. Emergency Water Main Break – Molzon Place and Central Avenue – June 5, 2026.
Water is shut off due to an Emergency Water Main Break on Molzon Place and Central Avenue. Customers in the surrounding area may experience periods of low water pressure. When the water is turned back on you may experience some discolored water. If you experience discolored water, please run an outside faucet or bathtub until the water clears with COLD water only.

A water filling station is located at the Water Filtration Plant and is available to any customers who are affected by an extended service interruption 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. There is no charge to customers affected by the water service interruption. Customers will need to bring their own containers and Filtration Plant Operators will assist in filling them. The Water Filtration Plant is located at 1080 Terryville Avenue and the number to the plant is (860) 583-6504. It would be appreciated if customers could call the plant in advance of arrival.
Crews will stay on-site until water is restored.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026 water will be shut off on Federal Street from Farmington Avenue to Summer Street for a water main repair. Water will be off from 10pm until 3am, crews will stay on the scene until water is restored.
