What is an open hip socket (perforated acetabulum)?

This is a right pelvis (hip bone) of a .
The hip socket, where the leg bone fits into, is completely open.
This condition is called a perforate acetabulum.
It is found exclusively in dinosaurs. Modern birds, which are , retain it. 🐔
Just one of SEVERAL lines of evidence pointing towards this classification.
