Siren Information Post-
The outdoor warning sirens in Marshall County have been a longstanding partnership with the municipalities that the sirens are located in and MCEM/MCSO/MC911. The outdoor sirens are ONLY meant to alert people outside- further information should be obtained from TV, Radio and/or other media once in a safe location. Calling Dispatch should be a LAST RESORT!

The sirens are activated by dispatch when the following criteria is met for weather:
-A Tornado Warning with radar indicated rotation and/or observed Tornado
-High Winds: 70+mph sustained
-Any Storm Warning with a ‘Extremely Dangerous Situation’ tag, ‘Destructive Damage’ tag or Wireless Emergency Alert/Emergency Alert System activation by the NWS.

The outdoor warning sirens have 3 different ‘sounds’:
-Weather: A long steady tone**
-Attack: A fast wail (up and down)**
-Fire or Other Alert: A slow wail (up and down)***
*Should a technical issue occur, a different activation may take place than what is outlined above.
**The Weather or Attack activation will go for about 3 minutes; it may not sound for the entire event.
***The activation for fire departments have changed to be a short activation around 10 seconds long.
If the siren stops, it doesn’t necessarily mean the threat is over. Again, calling Dispatch should be a LAST RESORT.
