Two miles beneath the Pacific, the shredded tail of this Douglas TBD-1 Devastator remains otherwise nearly pristine at the wreck of USS Lexington, the American navy’s second aircraft carrier, commissioned as CV-2 in 1927. Lexington and 216 of her sailors were lost during the Battle of the Coral Sea, May 8th, 1942.
