The countdown is over! Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4th, Broadmoor Police Department will be joining communities across the country for National Night Out — and we want to see you there!

From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, come out, say hello, and spend some time with the officers who serve the Broadmoor community. Whether you stop by for a few minutes or stay for the evening, it’s a great chance to put faces to names, ask questions, meet your neighbors, and enjoy some time together.

🚔 Broadmoor Police Department Community Reminder – Sidewalk Parking is Illegal (CVC §22500(f)) 🚔

The Broadmoor Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that California Vehicle Code §22500(f) prohibits parking a vehicle on any portion of a sidewalk or allowing any part of a vehicle to extend over a sidewalk.

This law helps ensure sidewalks remain safe and accessible for everyone, including pedestrians, families with strollers, seniors, and individuals using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Sidewalks are public pathways and must remain free from obstructions.

This issue was recently discussed at a Broadmoor Property Owners Association meeting, where residents expressed concerns regarding vehicles blocking sidewalks and requested that the Broadmoor Police Department increase enforcement of this section to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility throughout the community.

In response to those community concerns, the Broadmoor Police Department will continue to educate the public while also conducting enforcement of California Vehicle Code §22500(f).
Vehicles found parked on or obstructing a sidewalk may be cited.
Before leaving your vehicle, please take a moment to ensure it is parked completely within your driveway or legally along the curb without any portion extending over the sidewalk.

We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for helping keep Broadmoor's sidewalks safe and accessible for everyone.

🚔 Broadmoor Police Department Community Reminder – California's Daylighting Law 🚔

The Broadmoor Police Department would like to remind residents about California's Daylighting Law (Assembly Bill 413), which took full effect statewide on January 1, 2025.

Under this law, it is illegal to stop, stand, or park a vehicle within 20 feet of the approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, even if the curb is not painted red. Twenty feet is approximately the length of one standard parking space or a large vehicle.

California Vehicle Code § 22500(n)(1)(A) states:

"A person shall not stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, within 20 feet of the vehicle approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, or within 15 feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present."

The purpose of this law is to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists by increasing visibility at intersections and crosswalks. Vehicles parked too close to crosswalks can obstruct sightlines, making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians preparing to cross the street.

At the direction of Chief Michael P. Connolly, and with the support of the Broadmoor Property Owners Association, Broadmoor Police officers will be increasing enforcement efforts throughout the District to improve traffic safety and compliance with California law.

We recognize that parking can be limited within the Broadmoor community and throughout the Bay Area. Our goal is to educate the public about this important safety law while encouraging voluntary compliance before violations contribute to preventable collisions or injuries.

The Broadmoor Police Department invites you to join us for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM!

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that brings neighbors and law enforcement together to strengthen partnerships, promote crime prevention, and build safer, stronger communities.

🎉 Congratulations to Broadmoor Police Department Corporal Mike Davis! 🚔🏆

Today, Corporal Mike Davis was recognized at the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) California Law Enforcement & Prosecutor Recognition Awards Luncheon held at the Blackhawk Museum for his outstanding efforts in DUI enforcement and his continued commitment to keeping our community safe.

Through proactive traffic enforcement and a steadfast dedication to removing impaired drivers from our roadways, Corporal Davis works every day to help prevent tragedies before they occur. His commitment to traffic safety reflects the Broadmoor Police Department's mission of protecting the lives of everyone who travels through our community.

We extend our sincere thanks to MADD – Bay Area Chapter for recognizing the hard work and dedication of law enforcement professionals who strive to save lives through DUI enforcement.

Please join us in congratulating Corporal Davis on this well-deserved recognition, and congratulations to all of the law enforcement officers and prosecutors from across the Bay Area who were honored today for their outstanding service.

As you celebrate, please do so responsibly. If you're driving, drive sober and always look out for one another. Remember that Broadmoor Police will be working throughout the day and night to help keep the Broadmoor community safe.

Please remember all fireworks are illegal in Broadmoor. If you see illegal fireworks, please report them through the appropriate non-emergency channels whenever possible (650) 755-3838, and call 911 only for emergencies where there is an immediate threat to life or property.

Have a wonderful Fourth of July, celebrate safely, and let's make America's 250th birthday a celebration to remember!
