On Saturday, July 11, our K-9 Unit, along with the Warrensville Heights K-9 Unit, held a demonstration at our annual Home Days celebration, showcasing the incredible skills these police dogs use to assist officers in their daily duties.

There are times that remind us this profession can be cruel and unforgiving.

Last night, a Rittman police officer was killed in the line of duty after sustaining gunshot wounds while responding to a call for service. This incident also left two other officers hospitalized, and a K-9 unit hospitalized.

As law enforcement officers across the nation put on the uniform for another shift, every goodbye to their families carries a promise they pray they can keep, a promise to come home.

We grieve alongside the Rittman Police Department, all agencies who responded to this tragedy, and the families whose lives have been forever changed.

Let this be a reminder that freedom, safety, and peace in our communities are protected by ordinary people willing to make extraordinary sacrifices.

⚠️⚠️⚠️TRAFFIC ADVISORY: AVERY ROAD ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Last night, a tree fell on Avery Road just south of Homestead Creek Drive, taking a utility pole along for the ride.

Avery Road is completely shut down, and no vehicles can pass. Please avoid the area.

Cleveland Electric Illuminating [CEI] is on scene, and repairs have begun. CEI estimates Avery Road to be open around 03:00 PM this evening, and power to be restored to the affected area within 24 hours.

With the rising popularity of E-Bikes, we’ve had an influx of questions regarding the differences between their classes and what is required to operate them.

In our city ordinances, E-Bikes are defined and classified as “Bicycles”. Regardless of their motor assistance, they are still pedal-powered vehicles. Because of this classification, operators of E-Bikes must adhere to all traffic laws just as non-motor bicyclists must.

Below, we detail E-Bike classifications and list all relevant city ordinances. We’ve also attached a helpful informational guide for you to reference!

CLASS 1 E-BIKE 🚲

A bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.

CLASS 2 E-BIKE 🚲

A bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that may provide assistance regardless of whether the rider is pedaling and is not capable of providing assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.


CLASS 3 E-BIKE 🚲

A bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 28 miles per hour.
