Who says small steps don't lead to big success? In Kung Fu training, every small, deliberate movement builds strength, focus and precision for the larger techniques that follow. It's all about mastering the basics first before moving onto the grander moves. So, let's take small steps together and lay the foundation for greatness!

It’s about that time- local kiddos will be going back to school soon! We ask motorists to be especially cautious in school zones, near bus stops, and to anticipate children walking/bicycling in residential areas and near schools.

Also please remember the following:

•STOP for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm. That means children are entering or exiting the bus. Do not attempt to pass the bus.

•On a two-lane roadway, all lanes of traffic must STOP when red lights are flashing on the bus. Motorists coming both directions should stop at least 20 feet from the school bus to give children room to cross.

•On a four-lane roadway, only the lanes of traffic going the same direction as the bus must STOP behind the bus. The school bus driver will not make children cross two lanes of opposing traffic to reach their homes.

•On a one-way roadway, all lanes of traffic must STOP behind the bus. It does not matter how wide the road is. Passing a school bus with flashing red lights is not allowed when all traffic is traveling in the same direction.

•All school buses are required by law to stop at railroad crossings. Do not attempt to pass the bus on the tracks or cross until the bus has safely crossed.

We wish everyone a happy and safe school year!

The Broadview Police Department had an exciting Village Board Meeting last night!

Sergeant Richmond Clayton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant! Lt. Clayton is in his last week as a class supervisor and instructor at the Suburban Law Enforcement Training Academy!

Scott Turucz from STP Transport, Inc. was presented an Award for his professionalism, dedicated service, and humanitarian aid to the Village of Broadview.

We had a visitor and "Chief for the Day". Five year old Bennett wants to be a police officer. Bennett's school raffled a prize to "shadow" Chief Mills for the day. Bennett wore a uniform polo shirt and badge to make it official. Bennett took a tour of the police department, ate lunch (pizza with bacon & olives) with the patrol shift, and even gave the midnight shift their assignments!

Broadview Residents,

Improvements are coming to the Village Hall Parking Lot!

Through the hard-work and diligence of Village President, Katrina Thompson and the Village Board of Trustees, the Village of Broadview was able to enter into an agreement with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) to provide cost assistance for an upcoming project that will replace the existing parking lot with new permeable pavers. The new parking lot will be installed above an aggregate storage area that will help remove approximately 60,000 gallons of rainwater from the Village’s combined sewer system!

Construction is expected to start on July 31st and last approximately 30 days. During this period, there will be no access to the parking lot on the south side of the Village Hall. Residents, business partners and visitors who need to conduct business at Village Hall must park on the north side of the building in the the Police Department parking area.

If you have any questions, or you would like to be included in periodic email updates throughout the construction process, please send your email address, name, and home address to Chris Baker at [email protected].

The Broadview Police is encouraging residents to be on the look out. There are utility scams being reported by unsuspecting customers with ComEd. The following tips may help you avoid being the victim of a scam.

* ComEd representatives will never call or show up in person to ask you for cash or request that you purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on a bill.
Never provide your Social Security number or other personal information to someone who initiates contact.

* Never make a payment to anyone who comes to your door.

* Some imposters may have a fake work badge. If it doesn't feel right and you cannot confirm - do not move forward. Talk to someone about it first and/or call your police department.

*Call your utility company directly off the number on your statement.

*Do not show your bill to scammers and imposters who may show up at your door. Any solicitors in the Village of Broadview must have a permit.

* Be skeptical of people wearing clothing with old or defaced logos.

For more information on utility fraud and theft, visit

ComEd cares about your safety. We regularly receive reports of individuals posing as ComEd employees. We want to help you be better informed and avoid being the victim of a scam or disconnect-related fraud. Be aware, be prepared!
