Update: Report from Rosemont Square Apartments, owned by Waterton Corporation, a multibillion $ real estate & investment firm. Two months after we petitioned the landlord to exterminate 2 of the buildings, the rodent problem is as bad as ever. See comments below.
More than half of the tenants that we reached said that an exterminator came to treat just their units and did not help much. Rodents were back in no time. No full building extermination as called for in the petition, even though we know that's the only way to fix the problem (see comments below).
A tenant said that an exterminator claimed there was nothing he could do. When shown a report showing otherwise, he angrily did some work leaving the radiator covers broken. He had to be asked to leave some traps! This disrespect is typical of how tenants are treated.
We did a similar campaign 2 years ago at Rosemont with the same poor results, but we are getting more pressure this time with support from community members and tenants so please share!

North Shore educators are striking for a living wage for Paraprofessionals (Paras) who do the work of educating kids who need one on one and small group help in public schools. These kids are being neglected by the bosses who don't provide adequate pay or staffing to meet their needs. The school committees are refusing to negotiate and Gov. Healey has allowed the labor relations board (which like the department of education is appointed by the governor and beholden to her) to pass a regressive ruling saying that school committees don't need to negotiate with the educators. We are asking everyone to put pressure on Healey to do her duty to provide for students and educators in the commonwealth. Vote Yes on 2. MCAS testing is widely hated by students, educators and parents across the commonwealth who know that it does not measure the progress of students or the effectiveness of educators in any meaningful way. In another installment of Bosses Lie, It was never intended to do that- it was part of a decades long campaign to break up educators unions and privatize the largest public sector in the nation: public schools. Voting Yes on 2 will be a step in the right direction: we will still have the tests but they will no longer be used as a graduation requirement. The federal mandate for assessments does not require that it be used as a graduation requirement and MA is one of only 10 states in the US that do so. Vote Yes on 2 to cancel the MCAS graduation requirement and return a measure of worker control and support for public schools, the schools of the working class.

The Quincy ruling class does not allow the people of Quincy to speak at city council mtgs so Quincy for a Free Palestine now has a Substack where you can hear the pushback against the false claims they made at the 9/9/24 city council mtg. This is a must read for anyone interested in democracy as well as organizing against the genocide in Palestine. McCarthy called the ceasefire resolution "ridiculous" within seconds of claiming that Israel has been around for thousands of years.

This rally is in Cambridge tomorrow and no better way to spend Labor Day. If you think you can't change anything, know that BDS Boston has weakened Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms firm, to the point where they are now being forced out of this location. They will probably try to open up nearby so we need to keep up the pressure but in the end, Palestine will be free from the river to the sea!

Unions and local South Shore / Greater Boston Palestine groups are showing up for this and we need all hands. This action does have contradictions: some of the organizers are trying to work within the party of genocide and are not even suggesting to withhold votes for the anointed candidate. They have wisely not made any support for that S a part of the demands of the rally but an earlier petition to Dem delegates does make the "but Trump" claim. Most who I know support the demands of a ceasefire and arms embargo for sure but feel that Dems have deeply betrayed us all but especially Palestinians and other victims of Imperialism. It will not go well if people on the mic start talking S about how we have to beat Trump when the fact is the war machine will keep rolling no matter what stuffed suit they put in the oval office. It will end and we will have peace and prosperity when the workers of the world shut it down. Show up Sunday, be prepared to boo if necessary and talk it up with your comrades. No votes for genocide! Long live Palestine!
