Brockton Interfaith Community

Brockton Interfaith Community Brockton Interfaith Community is a multi-faith organization working for peace and justice for all people through community organizing.

Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC) is a broad based power organization created in 1990 by area clergy that were troubled by the pressing needs and concerns in the city of Brockton. BIC has since expanded and grown into a powerful regional organization with 13 religious institutions, the Cape Verdean Association of Brockton, and Stonehill College. It is BIC’s goal to improve the lives of those in

Brockton through building the leadership capacity of ordinary citizens. With the belief that our faith unites us instead of divides us, we work toward empowering ordinary citizens to bring about real change. BIC is governed by a Board of Directors. With the board’s leadership and with training from the BIC organizers, congregations build leadership teams to do outreach within their congregation, neighborhood, and community organizations through home visits and house meetings in order to determine self-interests, concerns, and passions. A better Brockton begins with each of us…building relationships, sharing common concerns, holding ourselves and our public officials accountable and organizing for change…BIC believes there’s power in organized people.

Tonight, they will host a teach in that invites young people into action steps as part of our campaign with our statewide network . Join us tonight to take action and protect our statewide network from harmful federal actions!

As our Protect Our People campaign moves forward, leaders of Youth SOL Brockton , the youth organizing program of MCAN’s affiliate Brockton Interfaith Community, invite youth statewide to learn about their youth developed strategy in the face of federal overreach at a Zoom teach-in next Thursday, March 19th.

Young people HAVE ALWAYS BEEN a driving force of social movements and social change. Protecting young people IS in Governor Maura Healey's self interest.

This is an opportunity to introduce young people in your congregations and organizations to organizing and to connect them with other young people who are leading the way.

Register for the Teach-In at bit.ly/FLCYouthSOLTeachIn

“Massachusetts has a responsibility to protect its residents from federal overreach and harmful enforcement practices. The Protect Act takes important and necessary steps toward that goal.

As a clergy leader serving in Framingham, I minister alongside many immigrant families. I have talked with people who are afraid to attend court dates, seek medical care, or even bring their children to school because of fears of civil immigration enforcement.

When families withdraw from public life out of fear, the entire community suffers. ”

The Rev. Sarah D. Máto, Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in
Framingham is a member of MCAN’s Faith Leader Caucus

The Protect Act is moving through the House and is explicitly focused on immigration enforcement. Legislation takes time. It is uncertain. And even strong bills often emerge from negotiation narrower than the moment demands. That is why we have continued to press the Governor to use her executive authority now — to advance the full framework of non-collaboration, accountability, and state sovereignty without delay.
