When a disaster happens, the Brockton Emergency Management Agency (BEMA) shifts from planning and preparedness into response.

During an emergency, BEMA works to maintain situational awareness, coordinate with city departments and response agencies, share critical information, and help ensure resources are available where they are needed most. Depending on the incident, this may include activating the Emergency Operations Center, monitoring weather and changing conditions, coordinating with fire, EMS, law enforcement, public works, utilities, healthcare, and other partners, and supporting requests for mutual aid or additional resources.

BEMA also helps communicate important safety information to the public, supports sheltering and evacuation needs, tracks impacts throughout the city, and assists city officials in making informed decisions as conditions change.

Our goal during any disaster is to help protect lives and property, support our local partners, and ensure that the City of Brockton has the information, coordination, and resources needed to respond effectively.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across southern New England this afternoon and evening. The area with the highest risk is CT, RI and central & western MA. Localized damaging winds are the primary threat along with heavy rain that may cause minor flooding. An isolated brief tornado is possible, especially far western areas of southern New England.

D.W. Field Park will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic on Friday July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

Due to black bear sightings, it is recommended that people stay out of the park.

As we celebrate with family and friends, the Brockton Fire Department wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. While fireworks may seem like a fun tradition, they can change lives in an instant.

Since 2021, illegal fireworks in Massachusetts have caused:
🔥 486 fires and explosions
🚑 188 serious injuries
💲 More than $854,000 in property damage

In Massachusetts, it is illegal for anyone without the proper license or permit to possess, use, or sell consumer fireworks. Violations can result in fines, seizure of the fireworks, and possible criminal charges. More importantly, illegal fireworks put your family, your neighbors, first responders, and your community at risk.

A few moments of excitement are never worth a lifetime of regret.

This holiday, we encourage everyone to enjoy one of the many professionally permitted fireworks displays offered throughout the Commonwealth. These events are conducted by trained, licensed professionals who follow strict safety standards so everyone can celebrate safely.

PARKING BAN NOTICE: Main Street (Belmont St. to Davids St.)

By order of the Brockton Police Traffic Commissioner, a temporary parking ban will take effect on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM – 5:00 AM on Saturday, July 4, due to public safety needs.

🔹Location: Both sides of Main Street (Northbound and Southbound lanes) between Belmont Street and Davids Street.
🔹Duration: From 3:00 PM on July 3 rd through 5:00 AM Saturday, July 4 th .
🔹Enforcement: The Brockton Police will strictly enforce this ban. Vehicles parked in this zone will be subject to fines and towing at the owner’s expense.
