Delayed post: 🔥🐾 Special visitor alert at Brockton Fire Youth Academy! 🚒
Week 7 our young adults had the exciting opportunity to meet Fire Investigation K9 team and learn how these highly trained dogs help investigators uncover the cause of fires. From detecting accelerants to demonstrating incredible focus and teamwork, the K9 showed our future firefighters just how important every role is in public safety.
The visit was a powerful reminder that fire investigation combines science, skill, and dedication — and sometimes four paws! 🐶🔥
Thank you to Clifford, Fulton, Paterson and Troopers Pike and Colella for inspiring the next generation of fire service leaders and giving our young adults a hands-on look at this specialized field.

We would like to take a moment to remember past members of the Brockton Fire Department this Memorial Day weekend and thank the Brockton Firefighters Relief Association for their hard work and dedication, by sharing a recently received email.

"Chief Nardelli,
Since 1974 I have been placing flowers at the the gravesites of family members located in the Pine Hill Cemetery, in West Bridgewater MA for the observation of Memorial Day.  Over the years I have performed this labor of love in the company of: my Mother. my wife and now my grandson.
The stone in the picture is that of my Great Uncle Wilford Goodell, who passed in 1952.  I have been told that in his lifetime he was a member of the Brockton Fire Department and I am also told that he worked his way up to Chief.
Every year - let me repeat that for emphasis - EVERY year that we put flowers on Uncle Wilford's grave there in a new Brockton FD Memorial flag in place at the headstone.
First let me say how amazing I find it that an organization would take the time to express that degree of dedication, devotion and recognition for a fallen member of their brotherhood some seventy plus years after his demise. I find this simple act of remembrance both astounding and worthy of some sort of recognition in and of  itself.
Therefore I would like to extend my heartfelt and deepest appreciation for what your department does to honor my Uncle Wilford.  I hope you accept my thanks in the same manner as I intend it and can find some way to pass along my gratitude to every member of the Brockton Fire Department for all they do.

Thank you again,

Earle Whitcher
Great Nephew of Wilford Goodell"

During week 6 Brockton Fire Youth Academy took another big step forward in their firefighting training by focusing on two critical firefighter skills: Ground Ladders and SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) training.
The academy concentrated on proper handling, carrying, and placement techniques for the 20’ roof ladder and the 24’ extension ladder. These young adults learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and safety while practicing ladder raises and positioning — essential skills used on the fireground every day.
We also wrapped up our SCBA training, where we gained a better understanding of how the equipment works, why it is vital for firefighter safety, and the importance of being fully prepared before entering any emergency scene. From air management to gear readiness, our students continue to build the confidence and discipline needed in the fire service.
Week after week, these young men and women are showing dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to learning what it means to serve others.
Great job to all of our Youth Fire Academy participants — keep pushing forward!high.school

Week 5 at Brockton Fire Youth Academy, students sharpened their skills in one of the most critical parts of the job — hose handling and advancement techniques. From proper nozzle control to coordinated team movement, these future firefighters learned how communication, balance, and discipline make all the difference on the fireground.
Key skills practiced included:
✅ Proper hose carry techniques
✅ Advancing charged hoselines safely
✅ Nozzle operation and control
✅ Team coordination and communication
Every drill builds confidence, strength, and leadership. These young adults are learning that firefighting is not just about strength — it’s about teamwork, technique, and staying calm under pressure.
Proud of the dedication and determination shown by this next generation of firefighters!

Week 4 for Spring 2026 Youth Academy we learned hand tools and hydrant operations. Proper technique, lifting and over all handling safety. Spent time using the Halligan for forced entry both single and two person. The students now have a strong understanding of how to feed an engine company both front suction and thru the Jaffery.
