On August 17th OCPC brought the Route 24 Tech Hub Roundtable Series to Primo Medical Group's West Bridgewater facility, where manufacturers, educators, workforce partners, and students dug into what's standing between the corridor's classrooms and its shop floors.

Students on the panel described manufacturing careers as something they couldn’t picture for themselves until they experienced them firsthand. Employers agreed that a shop tour can have a greater impact on students than a classroom lesson or video.

Several action items came through clearly: introduce the industry earlier, create more consistent points of contact with students (STEM Week in October is one early opportunity), and shore up funding for the training programs already proving they work.

As the Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) continues work on its $1,990,620 Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) grant to develop a modernization of the Transportation Investment Program (TIP) process, we are looking to residents to provide input on how the Old Colony Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) should prioritize transportation investments in the region.

📢We Need Your Voice: To ensure this prioritization tool aligns with local goals, we need robust participation from local leaders, planners, and stakeholders. We are launching the PRISM Public Priorities Survey to gather insights on infrastructure challenges, data availability, and community capital priorities.

📷We will also be holding a virtual Public Meeting on Thursday, September 24th via Zoom from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM as an additional opportunity to share your input and learn more about the project!

📌Why it Matters: This tool determines how federal and state infrastructure funds are channeled into regional projects. If your community's unique priorities are not reflected, we risk missing them. Your feedback directly shapes the model's functionality.

What began as a simple one-story generating station eventually grew into a complex of masonry buildings.​

📍 Edison frequently visited Brockton, helping advance projects that demonstrated how electricity could transform entire communities.​

🏠 The John Whipple House became the world's first private residence connected to a central underground utility system.​

🚒 Brockton's Central Fire Station was the first fire station in the United States to operate entirely on electricity. Edison even designed a system that automatically turned on the lights and released the horses when an alarm sounded.​

🎭 In 1884, the City Theater made history as the first theater to be directly connected to a three-wire underground electrical system, greatly reducing the fire risks associated with gas lighting.​

With Mary Waldron’s upcoming retirement later this year, Old Colony Planning Council has launched its search for its next Executive Director.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for the management of the organization, including its staff, work programs, activities, contracts, and finances. This position includes planning and regulatory functions, staff direction and oversight, budgeting and financial management, as well as external relations and communications with public entities, the media, public and private sector leaders, as well as the public.

The Executive Director provides leadership and coordinates Council activities and initiatives and provides professional advice to the Council Board (Delegates and Alternates) in the development and implementation of policies, goals, action strategies, regulations and other applicable statutory requirements.
