This afternoon, the crew of Station 5 B-Shift visited Senior Suites to dedicate a special project to resident Mr. Wayne Bishop. When Mr. Bishop expressed a need for a place to plant flowers and other greenery around the facility, our firefighters were happy to step in and help.

The crew put their skills to work, building four planters for Mr. Bishop and the residents of Senior Suites to enjoy. It’s a simple act of kindness that will bring color, beauty and enjoyment to the community for years to come.

We’re proud of our Station 5 B-Shift crew and all of our firefighters for going above and beyond to serve the citizens of Broken Arrow, not just in times of emergency, but in everyday moments that make a difference. Their actions are a great example of what it means to live out our core values: Selfless. Compassionate. Competent.

This morning, C-Shift crews focused on sharpening their skills through timed skill exercises, including ladder deployment, hydrant connection and forcible entry. The goal was simple: get better. On the fireground, every second counts and consistent training helps ensure our crews are ready to perform when it matters most.

Our firefighters are committed to continuous improvement, knowing that preparation and practice are essential to providing the highest level of service to our community. Training is at the core of what we do and we remain dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in everything we do.

Fire Truck Friday! New Engine 4 and Engine 5 are almost home!

A team of our firefighters is in Appleton, Wisconsin, this week at the Pierce Manufacturing plant, doing the final inspection on Broken Arrow’s two newest engines. They’re going through every compartment, hose bed, and gauge to make sure these trucks are ready to serve our community for years to come.

The two engines are identical. A few fun facts from the build sheets:
🚒 2,000 gallons per minute. That’s the pump rating. During certification testing it actually delivered 2,015 gpm. At that rate, it could empty a typical backyard swimming pool in under 10 minutes.
💧 750 gallons on board. That’s enough water to start fighting a fire the moment the crew arrives, before connecting to a hydrant. The water alone weighs over 6,000 pounds.
⚖️ About 18 tons. Fully loaded with water and fuel, each engine weighs roughly 36,700 pounds.
💪 510 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque from a 12.9-liter PACCAR diesel engine.
🔧 Built to take pressure. Each pump was pressure-tested at 600 psi for 10 minutes before it was installed.

These are the last two fire trucks purchased with funds from the 2018 bond. Thank you to the citizens of Broken Arrow for approving that investment in public safety. Our goal is to have both engines in service before the end of the year.

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and we’re encouraging everyone to locate and register AEDs with the National Emergency AED + Resource (NEAR) administered by our partner Pulsepoint. By doing so, you’re helping to build the NEAR Registry, a catalog of life-saving devices that could mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

There are prizes for individuals and communities that register AEDs, so spread the word! We've put together images, social posts, and other resources to make that easy.

For a complete list of rules and to learn how to join, visit

Let’s take a look back at last week’s annual Fire Prevention Week! 🚒

Each year, our Fire Prevention Team visits third-grade classrooms throughout Broken Arrow to teach students the importance of fire safety. Through interactive activities, engaging conversations and plenty of questions, students learn valuable skills that can help keep them and their families safe. They also get a firsthand look at what it’s like to be a firefighter, with opportunities to meet our crews and explore a fire truck and ambulance up close!

Fire Prevention Week is also a great reminder for everyone to have a fire escape plan at home. In the event of a fire, every second counts. Make sure everyone in your household knows a way out of every room, has a designated outdoor meeting place and understands the importance of getting out and staying out.

A big thank-you to our Fire Prevention Team and all our firefighters for their continued commitment to educating, protecting and serving our community — including our youngest citizens!

Earlier this week we had several firefighters participate in swiftwater training at the Tulsa Wave Park. This training prepares us for flooding situations when the Oklahoma weather decides to give us a lot of rain in short periods of time, like we are currently experiencing. Training is at the core of what we do so we can be prepared for anything at a moments notice.
