Today marks the beginning of Oklahoma's annual Tax-Free Weekend. From Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, qualifying clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item will be exempt from state and local sales taxes.

Please note that the exemption does not apply to accessories, special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use, or school supplies.

This weekend is a great opportunity to check off your back-to-school shopping list, find some savings, and support local businesses across Oklahoma!

I appreciate our Attorney General taking a strong stand against the federal government’s overreach in attempting to influence community decisions made right here in Broken Arrow.

In January, the Broken Arrow City Council made a prudent decision to deny this “Place of Assembly” request based on the city’s Comprehensive Plan & zoning regulations.

I agree that these are quintessential decisions that should be left to local control, not East Coast government bureaucrats.

As you know, I spoke out against this place of assembly because the intended land use for this area along the state highway and turnpike has always been commercial retail development, with a frontage road running alongside the highway. There are also other reasons why this specific location was not suitable for the requested use.

Any attempt to suggest the proposed development was denied for other reasons is a reach by the applicant because they were denied.
