A successful rescue with a happy ending 🐈

Today, the Broken Bow Vol Fire Department and Broken Bow Ambulance Service Nebraska responded to help rescue a curious cat that found itself stuck on a rooftop.

Thanks to a little teamwork (and a ladder), our furry friend was safely reunited with the ground and was none the worse for wear.

We are always happy to help, whether it’s a neighbor on two legs or four. 🐾

UPDATE: The cat has been reunited with family!

Have leftover fireworks that never went off? Don’t throw them in the trash.

We’ve placed a disposal barrel at the fire station for unused fireworks and duds only. This provides a safer way to dispose of fireworks that failed to ignite or were never used.

Please note:
✅ Unused fireworks
✅ Duds or misfires
❌ Do NOT place spent or already fired fireworks in the barrel
❌ No household trash or other waste

The disposal barrel is located outside the fire station and is available for community use.

Thank you to Myers Salvage for the steel drum to help make this possible. We appreciate their support in keeping our community safe, especially during the holiday.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🎆

Several members of the Broken Bow Fire Department recently attended the NSVFA Fire School, including the Grand Island Fire Search Academy, Farm Emergencies & Extrication, Basic Vehicle Extrication, and Intro to Firefighting classes.

The Grand Island Fire Search Academy focused on modern search operations, victim removal techniques, live fire behavior, and fireground strategy centered around one of the most important priorities in the fire service, finding and protecting lives.

Training opportunities like these allow our firefighters to learn from experienced instructors, train in realistic conditions, and bring proven tactics, techniques, and safety practices back to our department and community. The fire service is constantly evolving, and continuing education helps ensure we stay prepared, effective, and ready to serve at the highest level possible.

Whether responding to structure fires, vehicle crashes, or farm emergencies common to rural Nebraska, continuing education helps our department stay current with effective, proven, and safe firefighting and rescue practices. We are proud of the members who dedicated their time to continue building their skills, knowledge, and confidence through training.

Investing in training today helps make all of us better firefighters tomorrow.

Thank you to the NSVFA, Grand Island Fire Department, the instructors, and everyone involved in making these training opportunities possible.
