🚨 SCAM ALERT: SCAMMERS IMPERSONATING LAW ENFORCEMENT 🚨

Sheriff Bobby McCallum and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which individuals impersonate law enforcement officers and threaten victims with arrest to obtain money.

Recently, a victim was contacted by an individual whose caller ID displayed the phone number 352-486-5111 (tel:352-486-5111). The caller identified himself as “Jason Taylor” with the Financial Crimes Unit and claimed the victim had failed to appear for a federal jury summons. The caller further alleged that three warrants had been issued for the victim’s arrest and instructed her to turn herself in at the Levy County Jail.

While the victim was traveling to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller contacted her again and instructed her to pull over. The caller then advised her that she could avoid being taken into custody by paying $2,700 in bond through a kiosk at a Gainesville convenience store.

After making that payment, the victim was contacted by additional individuals identifying themselves as “Captain Bradshaw” and “Deputy Jared Oliver.” She was then instructed to pay an additional $1,500 as a supposed first-time offender fine.

Believing the individuals were legitimate law enforcement personnel, the victim followed their instructions and lost a total of $4,200. She was also instructed to provide a copy of her photo identification.

This incident serves as an important reminder that scammers may use official-sounding titles, spoofed caller ID information, threats of arrest, and demands for immediate payment to deceive unsuspecting victims.

⚠️ PROTECT YOURSELF:

▪️ Law enforcement will not demand payment through a convenience store kiosk to make arrest warrants disappear, nor will law enforcement call or demand payments of any kind.

▪️ Never send money, deposit funds, or provide payment codes or PINs to someone who unexpectedly contacts you and threatens arrest.

▪️ Caller ID information can be spoofed. A call displaying a legitimate agency’s phone number does not guarantee the caller is an actual law enforcement officer.

▪️ Never provide copies of your identification or personal information to unverified callers.

▪️ If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and independently contact the agency using a publicly listed telephone number to verify the information.

▪️ If you have lost money in a scam, report the incident to your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.

REMEMBER: Scammers rely on fear, urgency, and intimidation to pressure victims into making quick decisions. Take a moment to verify the information before taking action.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to share this warning with family members, friends, and neighbors to help prevent others from becoming victims of these deceptive schemes.

Today, Sheriff McCallum was honored to be asked to sign the official "Thank our 1st Responders" custom VW bug. Spencer Crutchley, founder of the Thank Our 1st Responders organization to honor of his brother's legacy, custom built this hot rod that is touring the State collecting each of the 67 Florida Sheriff's signatures. This monument will be on display at numerous locations throughout Florida and at the Washington DC National Police Week this next year. Thank you Spencer for your support and we wish you all the safety and success as you finish your mission.

Trenton Man Arrested For Child Po*******hy

On July 22nd, 2026, the Levy County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) received a Cyber Tip via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC). The Cyber Tip was originated from Google, which detailed that apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) reported in this Cyber Tip was detected within a Google account's Google Photos and Google Drive. The Cyber Tip contained 78 images and videos that were flagged as apparent CSAM, which is the most the Levy County Sheriff’s Office has encountered from a single Cyber Tip. Upon observations, all 78 images and videos were deemed CSAM and CSAM related material, with some containing content as young as toddler age.

Detectives authored a Google search warrant for the Google Drive and account under the moniker provided by NCMEC, as well as subpoenas to confirm the user of other internet identifiers. Upon ex*****on of the Google Search Warrant and subpoenas, a forensic investigation was completed where multiple images were observed of Trenton resident, Evan Douglas McQuiston, by facial comparison to social media accounts belonging to Evan Douglas McQuiston, as well as other biographical information consistent with DHMSV information. During the forensic investigation into the Google account, multiple images and video containing CSAM were located. Detective Ryan Sullivan of Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force observed the images and video contained therein the Google account to be known hash images and videos tagged by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as being known CSAM images and videos.

On October 7th, 2026, Evan Douglas McQuiston was taken into custody on probable cause following a combined effort between the LCSO Criminal Investigations Division, Drug Task Force, and Patrol Division, and transported to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office for interview. During his interview, Evan Douglas McQuiston made several incriminating statements post-Miranda. Following the interview, Detective Blake Landfair charged Evan Douglas McQuiston with 20 counts of F.S. 827.071(5) Possession of Child Po*******hy and 1 count of F.S. 934.215 Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device. Evan Douglas McQuiston was also charged 1 count of F.S. 784.07(2b) Battery on Law Enforcement and 1 count of F.S. 843.01 Resisting Officer with Violence. Evan Douglas McQuiston is being held in the levy County Detention Center on a $550,000 bond. Additional criminal charges are forthcoming.
