Great news for the Town of Bronson! Governor Ron DeSantis announced today that the Florida Department of Commerce has awarded the Town of Bronson a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $1.38 million to benefit persons of low and moderate income. The Townβs application was in the area of Neighborhood Revitalization for infrastructure including water, sewer and streets for the Habitat for Humanityβs new neighborhood located at 680 School Street.
In accepting this grant, Mayor Bruce Greenlee said, βWe hope this is the beginning of many good things to come our way. It will bring new customers for water and sewer, and it will provide some sewer infrastructure for a few septic-to-sewer conversions, which is important for the Townβs Basin Management Action Plan requirements.β
Vice Mayor Virginia Phillips, who lives in this neighborhood and went door-to-door to get all the surveys completed, is also thrilled about this opportunity to bring a real affordable housing development to Bronson. βI am very excited that this CDBG grant has been awarded to the Town of Bronson, and I look forward to seeing it all start to come together.β

Our organization is beyond excited to serve the local, hard-working families of Bronson by providing safe, secure, and truly affordable housing,β said Justin Leech, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of the Nature Coast. βThis neighborhood of affordable homes marks a major milestone as it will be the first of its kind in the Town of Bronson, as well as Levy County.β
With the funding in place, the Town of Bronson will now work with the Habitat of Humanity for the Nature Coast in developing these 33 units of new owner-occupied affordable housing. The successful funding application was prepared by Fred Fox Enterprises, Inc., the Townβs grant consultant, along with the Town's engineering firm of CPH Consulting, LLC, which assisted the Town in identifying the funding opportunity, developing the project and preparing and submitting the application.
