For quite some time now, we, the volunteers of East Coke County Ambulance Service have struggled to continue to staff our ambulance with enough volunteers to continue to provide the citizens of East Coke County with the Emergency Medical Services (ambulance) that we/you all deserve.
Most don’t know that we are required to have 2 state certified EMS personnel in the ambulance to make 911 calls in the ambulance. Due to most of our volunteers working at least 1 full time job and most having multiple jobs, we have found it increasingly difficult to have 2 certified volunteers in town 24/7. We have looked at option after option and come up with lots of ideas to try to come up with staffing, to no avail.

It is with broken hearts that we have to deliver this news! We had to make the heart breaking decision to shut our doors as the EMS provider for East Coke County, at this time. We are committed to continuing to diligently work to find a solution for staffing and will work to reestablish licensing if we are able to come up with sufficient staffing.
In the time being the volunteers of West Coke County Ambulance Service are providing 911 coverage for Bronte and Robert Lee, and when available some of the same great people from Bronte will assist Robert Lee EMS, in providing ambulance coverage.

To the RL EMS volunteers, we are thankful for all of your assistance in helping to ensure the continuation of ambulance coverage for the citizens of Bronte and East Coke County during this time!!

The continued focus for us is a solution that will ensure 24/7/365 ambulance coverage for the citizens of Coke County!!

Living in a small town…most people don’t realize your fire and (EMS) ambulance services are provided by very limited funds and are possibly staffed by volunteers. Coke County is no different! We are staffed by volunteers on both the fire and EMS side. It is amazing to have caring citizens who are certified to provide patient care who are willing to drop everything at a moments notice to come to a strangers or a friends aide without any questions! We are blessed indeed!! In todays society to make ends meet, these same volunteers have to work full time jobs to provide for their families! Which means the agencies that are staffed by volunteers don’t have as many people who can volunteer or are very limited in the hours they can volunteer because they are working to provide for their families. With EMS services specifically it takes a long term commitment to complete class, clinicals and the testing process to become certified at the EMR, EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic level. In Coke County we are no different, finding volunteers is a hard task to complete, especially with the lengthy amount of time to complete the classes. The volunteers we do have are tired but will continue to do all we can to provide EMS services! It is becoming increasingly difficult to continue to staff ambulances nationwide due to all of the above circumstances. Again we are no different and struggle with the same problems! In East Coke County we have about 8-10 volunteers who staff the ambulance. We are working hard at finding solutions to continue to provide the best emergency services care to all the citizens of Bronte and East Coke County! We are thankful for the help we get from West Coke County when needed!! It is a team effort and we are thankful for all the volunteers who continue to run ambulance calls when duty calls! We are actively working towards finding a solution/solutions to provide a better means of staffing!! Until we find a better solution for staffing, continue to pray for the volunteers!!
