The IRS is hosting a Special Community Assistance Event in Brookfield August 25-27 from 8:30am-4pm at 116 West Brooks Street, Brookfield City Hall. This opportunity gives local residents to meet with IRS employees face-to-face with no appointment necessary. Just bring you photo ID and any letters or notices from the IRS.

◾️Role in Business: Owner and operator of Small Kennels LLC. Specializing in obedience & gun dog training.

◾️How long have you been involved in the Chamber? This is my first year as a Chamber member and first time on the Board.

◾️Why did you want to serve on the Chamber Board? I wanted to server to help make a difference for other businesses in the area and to be more involved in the community.

◾️What are you most excited for this year? When winter hits, I can't wait to chase ducks from North Dakota to Indiana and back to Missouri! Then into Kansas and Arkansas!

Brookfield Recognized as a Smart Rural Community

Brookfield, MO - August 19, 2026— Chariton Valley is proud to recognize Brookfield as a Smart Rural Community, a designation honoring rural communities that leverage reliable fiber broadband connectivity to support economic development, education, healthcare, agriculture, workforce opportunities, and quality of life.

The designation reflects years of investment and collaboration between Chariton Valley and the Brookfield community. Since Chariton Valley's fiber expansion project launched in Brookfield in 2017, local residents, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, and agricultural operations have benefited from enhanced connectivity and new opportunities for growth.

Brookfield's application highlighted the many ways broadband supports the community, from helping local businesses expand their online presence and reach new customers to supporting remote work, online learning, telehealth services, and modern agricultural operations.

"Today's designation recognizes more than reliable internet service," said Donna Bell, Public Relations & Economic Development Manager for Chariton Valley. "It recognizes a community that understands how connectivity creates opportunities for businesses, students, healthcare providers, agricultural producers, and families. We are proud to partner with Brookfield and celebrate this well-deserved recognition."

As a Smart Rural Community, Brookfield will receive official signage, promotional resources, and recognition through Chariton Valley's marketing efforts, providing another tool to support community promotion and economic development.

Chariton Valley extends its appreciation to Brandon Roberts, Brookfield City Manager, and Jenna Jurkofsky, Executive Director of the Brookfield Chamber, for their efforts in preparing and submitting the Smart Rural Community application and helping tell Brookfield’s story. We're looking to grow and need some help. This is a part-time position and we're very flexible. It will be roughly 20 hours per week on average. We do a little of everything, but need help with embroidery, vinyl decals, laser engraving, and shirt printing. If you have experience, amazing. If not, we will train you. You will also be working directly with customers.
