Candlewood Lake Road will be closed, from Huckleberry Hill Road to Elbow Hill Road, for the next few hours as we are operating at a Oil Truck rollover. There are no injuries or entrapment, however there is 1800 gallons of home heating oil on board. There is no leak from the truck.
Yesterday morning the BVFC was kept busy with a request for mutual aid to New Milford for a possible water rescue on Candlewood Lake and a gas leak in a commercial occupancy.
At 0833 hours Water Witch Hose Co. #2 of New Milford requested a water rescue response in the area of the Lake Club for an unoccupied kayak in the middle of the lake. Brookfield Vol. Fire Dept. Candlewood Company Inc launched Marine 24 with 2 members in exposure suits to investigate. It was determined that the kayak broke away from its mooring and there was no emergency. Units were in service by 0915.
At 1134 hours the BVFC was dispatched to 14 Candlewood Lake Road for a report of an odor of gas. E-1 and E-22 responded and the source was traced to heating units on the roof. The gas company responded and secured the leak. Units were in service by 1225 hours.
The Brookfield Fire Company responded to a total of 2,307 calls for service. Our success would not be possible with out our Volunteers, EMS staff, the Town of Brookfield and the citizens who support us.
Below is a breakdown of all the calls for the year.
Fire: 725 Runs
EMS: 1582

Currently E-4 with a crew of 5 is covering the Danbury Fire Department Engine 24 while they operate at a 3rd alarm structure fire on Brittania Drive.
E-4 initially was on the third alarm and was assigned Rapid Intervention. They have been cleared from the scene and have returned to a cover assignment at station 24.
There is a hose set up in front of FIRE HQ on Pocono Rd for residents without power and in need of water.
The Officers and Members of the BVFC wish our followers and our very supportive and generous community a safe and Merry Christmas.
Prospect Dive is closed in the area of Ridgeview Terrace due to a large tree and wires down.
We are keeping tabs on the latest weather updates. The general trend is heavy rain(1-3”) and high winds (25-50 with stronger gusts) from anywhere after 6pm-10am tomorrow. Expect downed trees and wires and well as power outages. As always treat any downed wire as live and keep generators away from the residence due to carbon monoxide.
CONNECTICUT WEATHER'S LATEST WEATHER DISCUSSION
December 24, 2020 8:00 AM
A slow moving cold front will approach the region today and become the focus for a heavy rain and wind event by this evening. As the front reaches the east coast, air channeling straight up the eastern seaboard out of the Caribbean will fuel an intensifying southerly low level jet. This low level jet will be a driving force behind heavy, potentially flooding rainfall. Totals will range from 1 to 3 inches falling mostly within a 4-6 hour period between 10 PM and 4 AM tonight. It will also cause a period of strong to damaging wind gusts late tonight through early tomorrow. The rain and winds will taper down through the day tomorrow with falling temperatures. There will be a few lingering rain and snow showers tomorrow night before skies completely clear overnight. Behind the system, mostly sunny and cold conditions will begin the weekend. Our next chance for precipitation will come early next week and at this point looks like primarily rain. Dry seasonable weather will follow in the middle of next week.

Christmas came early for the BVFC. Today we took delivery of our 2020 Ford F-550 type 1 ambulance, manufactured by PL Custom Emergency Vehicles. Thank you to our salesman, Alan Rich, of Hendrickson Fire Rescue Equipment for guiding us through the process. This ambulance is replacing our 2010 Ford E series Type 3 ambulance, also manufactured by PL Custom.
The BVFC would like to thank First Selectman Stephen Dunn, Finance Director Marcia Marien, Accountant Kevin Gervais, Purchasing Manager Julian Capadose and the entire Board of Finance who helped us immensely.
18-2 will be getting fitted for service over the next few weeks and will be serving the community starting in January.
Merry Christmas? Looks like we have some wet and windy weather ahead of us.
Very dense fog and strong gusty winds Christmas morning. Widespread power outages a possibility with gusts of 55-65 mph possible. #nbcct
Today we had the opportunity to enroll our first responders into the vaccine administration management system. Day in and day out our EMS and Fire personnel are at risk while providing exemplary care to the residents and visitors to our community. We now are one step closer to providing more protection to our personnel and to the community we proudly serve.
Keep an eye out for black ice tonight
Some fog is developing as well as some black ice as temperatures drop below freezing. Watch out for some slick spots! #nbcct
This afternoon BVFC Fire and EMS were dispatched to the Brookfield High School for a youth injured in a sledding accident. Paramedic Ambulances 18-1 and 18-3, Ranger 1, Red Grass and E-22 responded to the scene and operated under the command of Car 1.
Members removed one injured youth from the “back hill” of the rear of BHS utilizing Ranger 1. The patient was in stable condition and was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation.
This is the 3rd time in several days that Ranger 1 was used to help remove a patient due to accessibility issues.
The officers and members of the BVFC wish Engineer Donald DiGioia a very happy birthday today.
The members of the BVFC responded to several calls through the snowstorm and after. We had to twice utilize “Ranger 1” our Polaris 6x6 UTV to remove patients from their homes due to uncleared driveways. The roads are still slippery as seen in one picture from earlier today of an accident on Sunset Hill.
Please be safe and stay warm.
Roads are slick. Please stay home if you do not have to travel and allow the Public Works crews to work.
The BVFC is ready for whatever Mother Nature has in store for Brookfield. Apparatus are chained, fueled and ready to go. We have several 4x4 vehicles including an ambulance.
We have added additional EMS staffing for the overnight shift and we will be staffing the Pocono Road firehouse for the duration of thr storm.
We ask that you please stay home during the storm so the members of the Brookfield Public Works can do their jobs and keep the roads open.
Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan
The heaviest snowfall rates with this storm will be later this evening and tonight. We will see a band of 2-3" per hour snowfall rates between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Snow accumulates through mid morning Thursday but at a lesser rate.
This past Monday night the BVFC was fortunate enough to have Captain Nick Esposito of the Bridgeport FD present his tactical aerial positioning class. Due to Covid, it was a combination of an in person and zoom presentation.
Captain Esposito can be followed on Facebook and Instagram at truck_tactics and www.trucktactics.org
He will be back in the spring for the hands on portion of the program.
Departments with aerial devices should strongly consider having Captain Nick in for some training!
Please help us help keep you and your family safe!
