Floating Bridge / Sunset Lake

Floating Bridge / Sunset Lake I created this page because I really like Floating Bridge. I grew up down the road and as a kid would ride my bike up for fishing and swimming.

now I bring my son as often as we can. he loves jumping off the bridge to swim on one side while I fish on the other side. jsut wanted to make a page where people could share pics of the bridge and whatever else. I hope someday soon it can be reopened to traffic. The town of Brookfield is centrally located south of Montpelier, and is the site of the famous Floating Bridge and Vermont's first libra

ry. Sunset Lake is crossed by a floating bridge, buoyed by 380 barrels, (the lake is too deep to support a pillared span). The lake is the site of much fishing off the bridge and in January it is a coveted viewing point for one of New England's last remaining ice harvest festivals. http://www.vtliving.com/events/brookfieldiceharvest/

This is a page I created and has nothing to do with the town of Brookfield, VT.

This is how many trout were stocked at the Floating Bridge this year.

Also there are some good populations of Largemouth Bass, Perch, Blue Gill, bullpout and Whitenose Suckers.

Bass will be spawning in about a month, bluegills shortly after, suckers are probably already spawning in the small Brook at the north end or will be very soon. (Good pike bait if you have a baitfish endorsement)

This is from the Vermont Traditions Coalition Executive Director

All,

I wanted to update everyone and let you know that the Governor reached out to the sporting community yesterday.

Your calls and emails were heard!

He called together several leaders to discuss with us the issue of the closure at Salisbury. He worked with us to discuss solutions to the immediate issue of closure, and asked us to continue to work with his administration on the long-term issues related to outflow from the facility. This is an important first step, and we thank him for his responsiveness to the needs of the sporting community in this matter. As I noted in my earlier alerts, this will likely include a fee increase on licenses. The increase will be nominal, but spread across the community will have a significant positive impact. We know that Governor Scott was not in favor of increasing fees even to support the hatchery, but we thank him for coming to the table and hearing our concerns about the closure with an open mind.

Thank you to all who engaged, and made those calls. Your voices give our voices weight. I can't overemphasize how important it is to have you respond to these issues. We still need to work to secure the funding, but we're headed in the right direction and I will continue to update as the work progresses.
