This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

We especially remember Brookfield’s own Chief Warrant Officer Charles W. Allison Jr., a member of the Candlewood Fire, who lost his life in 1971 while serving during a Connecticut National Guard training flight.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor the memory of our nation’s fallen service members.

From all of us at the Candlewood Fire Department, we thank our military heroes and their families for their service and devotion to our country.

We will never forget.

⏰ You changed your clocks — now change your batteries!

Daylight Saving Time started overnight, and while most people remembered to move their clocks ahead, it’s also the perfect reminder to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Even if your smoke alarms are hardwired, they still rely on backup batteries to operate during a power outage. If those batteries are dead, your alarm may not protect you when you need it most.

🚨 Smoke Alarm Safety Reminders:
• Test smoke alarms once a month
• Replace batteries at least once a year
• Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years
• Install alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half.

Take a few minutes today to make sure your alarms are ready to protect your family.

Winter Parking Reminder – Upcoming Storm (Sunday–Monday)

With a snowstorm expected to begin Sunday morning and extend into Monday, residents and visitors are reminded that during periods of falling snow, sleet, or freezing rain, parking on any public roadway that creates a hazard or interferes with plowing and sanding is prohibited under town ordinance.

This restriction includes street-side parking spaces in the Brookfield Town Center District (Four Corners area).

Enforcement action will be taken, up to and including the towing/removal of vehicles found in violation.

Please plan ahead and park responsibly to help keep roads clear and safe throughout this winter weather event.

Thank you to the Board of Selectman, Board of Finance and the wonderful residents of Brookfield for approving our meter capital request for this budget cycle. With the approved capital and meter funds in reserve, we were able to purchase all new MSA Io4 4-gas meters for both fire companies and the fire marshals office.
We also would to thank Bryan Finch and David Flynn of Firematic for working with us on this project.
