We love seeing how passionate our community is about local improvements! Whenever we secure grant funding for town projects, whether it's upgrading our parks, roads, or public spaces, we know everyone is eager to see the results. 🛠️

While physical construction is the most visible part of any project, essential work happens behind the scenes long before the first shovel hits the ground.

To help keep everyone in the loop, we put together a simple guide outlining the lifecycle of a municipal grant. From environmental reviews and design engineering to mandatory state permits, here is a look at the steady progress being made during every phase of a project!

⚠️ CODE PURPLE AIR QUALITY ALERT ⚠️

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Purple Air Quality Action Day for Brookhaven and the surrounding region through midnight tonight, Friday, July 17.

Smoke from wildfires burning across Canada has moved into our area, creating hazy conditions and elevated levels of fine-particle pollution. A Code Purple alert means the air may be very unhealthy, and everyone may be at increased risk of experiencing health effects.

Residents are encouraged to:

• Limit time outdoors, especially strenuous exercise or physical activity
• Keep children, older adults and pets indoors as much as possible
• Take extra precautions if you have asthma, heart disease or another respiratory condition
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible
• Consider wearing a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask if you must spend time outside
• Seek medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain or other serious symptoms

Please check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors and monitor current conditions through AirNow.gov.

Stay safe, Brookhaven. đź’™

At this week’s Borough Council meeting, Brookhaven had the privilege of recognizing six members of the Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Company for earning their Firefighter I Pro Board Certification.

This nationally recognized certification reflects countless hours of training, studying, and hands-on experience. It represents a commitment to excellence and a dedication to protecting the residents of our community.

At our June council meeting, Council President and history teacher Dan Burke shared some inspiring words about Independence Day and our nation's 250th birthday.

History shows us that America has always been shaped by both division and determination. From 1776 to today, progress hasn't been easy—but it happens when we choose unity over division, understanding over anger, and cooperation over conflict.

Dan reminded us:
"What defines us is not that we agree on everything—it's that, time and again, we choose to move forward together. Because despite our differences, we are united by what matters most. We love our families. We care about our community. We want a better future for the next generation."
This 4th of July, let's listen more, seek common ground, and remember what brings us together.
Have a safe, happy, and meaningful Independence Day! 🎆✨🇺🇸

Juneteenth – June 19

Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

This day serves as an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, honor the resilience and contributions of African Americans, and celebrate the rich culture, heritage, and achievements that continue to shape our communities.

As we recognize Juneteenth, we encourage all residents to learn, reflect, and celebrate the importance of freedom, equality, and opportunity for all.

Our history matters. Understanding it helps us build a stronger future together.

Brookhaven Community, we need your help!

The Hallie Christine Jackson Butterfly Sanctuary stands as a beautiful place of peace, hope, and nature in our borough, providing a vital home for pollinating species and endangered Monarch butterflies.

As we head into the warmer months, the garden needs some love to clear away debris from the dormant winter season. We are looking for volunteers to come out and help us pull weeds and spruce up the grounds!

đź—“ When: This Saturday, June 13th
⏰ Time: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
📍 Where: The Hallie Christine Jackson Butterfly Sanctuary (located at the front area of Durkin Field, adjacent to Coebourn Elementary School)

Volunteers' dedication created and maintains this sanctuary. Whether you can stay for the whole two hours or just stop by for a bit, every hand makes a difference in keeping this special community space beautiful.

Bring your gardening gloves and your community spirit! We hope to see you there.
