Brookland Animal Control was dispatched to a residence in the Brookland Hills neighborhood this morning in connection with an eviction. The initial call was to assist with the removal of a deceased dog located inside the home.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that another dog was still alive inside the residence. The dog was found in poor condition and in need of immediate care.

After speaking with the owner, the dog was surrendered to the City of Brookland. The dog will continue to be assessed to determine its needs and the appropriate next steps.

We will provide additional updates as they become available.

The investigation into the death of K-9 BOLO has been concluded. According to the independent necropsy, BOLO died from Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as bloat. No evidence of foul play was found, and the death was determined to be from natural causes.

While this conclusion brings answers, it does not lessen the loss. BOLO faithfully served the Brookland Police Department and our community with dedication and courage. He will be deeply missed by his handler, the department, and the citizens he helped protect. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone mourning his loss.

Today, we responded to a call regarding a loose dog in the Brookland Hills neighborhood. Upon arrival, it was immediately observed that the dog was in extremely poor condition and severely emaciated.

Due to the condition of the animal, he was transported directly to a veterinarian for emergency treatment and evaluation.

At this time, we are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the owner or anyone who may recognize this dog.
