At 18:33 this evening, Task Force 344 was dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at 109 3rd Street. The caller reported that the residence was filled with smoke coming from an unknown source.

Gloucester City Battalion 5 and Westville Chief 701 arrived on scene and confirmed a smoke condition throughout the interior of the dwelling. Crews from Engine 3443, Engine 733, and Squad 5 arrived, secured a water supply, and began investigating the interior of the residence to locate the source of the smoke.

Crews located a burned-up motor within the HVAC system in the basement, which was determined to be the source of the smoke. Ladder 736 operated a positive-pressure ventilation fan to remove the smoke from the dwelling.

Once the smoke was ventilated and the investigation was completed, the scene was turned over to the homeowner.

Tonight for drill members went over the operation of Cascade 344. The main job of the Cascade is to refill SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) firefighters use to breathe in hazardous environments . With only a handful of these units in Camden County it is our busiest truck for mutual aid assignments.

Around 9 p.m. last night, the department and our mutual-aid partners from Westville responded to a motor vehicle accident with the occupant reported to be trapped inside the vehicle. Companies arrived to find a single vehicle on its side. The driver was able to self-extricate prior to fire and EMS arriving on location. Companies secured the vehicle and handled a minor highway hazard before returning to service.

Today around 2pm, Engine 3443 was dispatched to 2nd street in National park for an all-hands dwelling fire. The engine crew stood by to assist on the fireground before being released.

Dear residents of Brooklawn: Tonight, a member of the department was at the station and had the front doors open and a resident came in and requested assistance with their flooded basement. While on scene, the homeowner told us he was not sure how to make contact with us if nobody was at the station. The Brooklawn Fire Department is a 100% volunteer and does not have members in the station at all times. The best way to request any emergency service in the borough is by dialing 911 and speaking to a Camden county 911 call taker who will send a call for service to the dispatcher who will then dispatch the appropriate resources to you.
