It is with deep sadness that the Brookline Fire Department announces the passing of Retired Captain and Fire Ward Mark Fessenden.

Mark was a multi-generational member of the Brookline Fire Department whose dedication, service, and passion for the fire service left a lasting impact on our department and community. Throughout his many years of service as a firefighter, Captain, and Fire Ward, Mark remained deeply committed to protecting and advancing the department he loved.

Mark poured his heart, sweat, and soul into preserving the history of the Brookline Fire Department. His dedication to restoring, maintaining, and sharing our antique apparatus ensured that future generations would never forget the rich traditions and legacy of those who came before us. The pride he took in keeping our history alive was evident in everything he did.

Mark’s and his wife Bonnie’s commitment to the Brookline Fire family never wavered. His knowledge, stories, leadership, and unwavering support of the department will be remembered by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

On behalf of the members of the Brookline Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Fessenden family and all those who knew and loved Mark.

Took a walk upstairs today and checked in on the Firefighter’s Muster trophies…they’re all still there. Safe. Polished. Quietly judging us.
These trophies come from the good old days of musters where firefighters from different towns got together to compete in events like hose lays, ladder raises, and water targets. Basically, controlled chaos mixed with skill, speed, and a whole lot of bragging rights.
As we celebrate 200 years of the Brookline Fire Department, this is just one of many stories that make up who we are...built on tradition, pride, and a little friendly competition along the way.

As always, thank you to W.D. Perkins Fire Pump Specialists for annually inspecting and testing the pumps on our fire apparatus. Yesterday, they were at our station completing those tests.

After finishing up in Brookline and leaving town, they came across a brush fire and stopped to assist crews on scene. Many of their employees are current or retired firefighters from departments across the region, and it shows in their dedication to the fire service and helping others whenever needed.
