Brookline's risk for West Nile Virus (WNV) has been upgraded to high, while the risk for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) remains low. The Brookline Department of Public Health & Human Services is actively monitoring and working to reduce the risk of WNV and EEE. Here's how to protect yourself:

🦟Avoid Mosquito Bites:
Apply Insect Repellent: Use an EPA-registered repellent with ingredients like DEET & permethrin on exposed skin or clothing. Follow the label instructions carefully!
Remember: DEET shouldn’t be used on infants under 2 months and should be at 30% or less for older children.

🌅 Be Aware of Peak Mosquito Hours:
Mosquitoes are most active from dusk to dawn. If possible, reschedule outdoor activities during these times.

đź‘•Dress for Protection:
Wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks to keep mosquitoes away from your skin.

🏠Check your Residence:
Have secure screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitos out. Get rid of standing water sites where mosquitos can breed. Maintain your gutters and drains.
