The warmer whether is upon us and BPD wanted to remind everyone to avoid overexertion in extreme heat.

Along with our fire department and ambulance counterparts, we respond to hundreds of heat related calls for service during the summer.

Here are a few tips to stay safe:
Stay hydrated — drink water before you feel thirsty
Limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours (10am–4pm)
Know the signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and weakness
Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets
NEVER leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle

If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke high body temperature, confusion, or loss of consciousness call 9-1-1 immediately.

Stay cool, Brookline. We're here if you need us.

A Brookline man pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor thanks to the investigative assistance by Brookline Detectives Shinai Hattori and Yu Kajita.

William Kahn, 28, pleaded guilty to transfer of obscene material to a minor. U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young scheduled sentencing for Sept. 22, 2026. Kahn was charged in December 2025.

Between June 2025 and August 2025, Kahn engaged in online conversations with an undercover agent purporting to be a 14-year-old girl. Kahn engaged in sexually explicit chat discussions with the purported minor, sent a photograph of an adult erect genitalia and discussed meeting in person with the purported minor.

The charge of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division made the announcement today. Valuable assistance was provided by the Brookline, Boston and Arlington Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identity and rescue victims.

Honoring Memorial Day: A Time to Remember

As we approach Memorial Day, the Brookline Police Department joins our community and the nation in solemn reflection and gratitude. This day stands as a powerful reminder of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice has secured the freedoms we enjoy and the safety we strive to protect every day.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend—it is a time to honor our fallen heroes, support their families, and recommit ourselves to the values they fought for. Whether through attending a local ceremony, visiting a memorial, or simply pausing for a moment of silence, we encourage all residents to take time to remember and reflect.

At the Brookline Police Department, we carry this spirit of service and remembrance in our daily work. We are humbled by the courage of those who came before us and remain dedicated to protecting the community they helped preserve.

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
