Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired MABVI is a program of MAB Community Services. Our unique blend of programs and services enables individuals to learn to live confidently with vision loss.

For over 100 years, the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI), has been committed to supporting individuals living with vision loss. We provide vision rehabilitation and support services throughout Massachusetts to more than 1,200 adults, primarily older adults, who are blind or visually impaired. Programs include access to low vision clinics, peer empowerment suppo

rt groups, one-to-one volunteer assistance, in-home vision rehabilitation, adjustment counseling/mental health support, and access/assistive technology training.

We're grateful to SouthCoast Community Foundation for its generous $10,000 grant supporting MABVI services throughout Greater New Bedford.

This funding helps provide free vision rehabilitation services for people with visual disabilities, including in-home vision rehabilitation, assistive technology training, orientation and mobility instruction, peer support, volunteer services, and adjustment counseling. Together, these services help people build the skills to live safely, independently, and confidently in their communities.

🌟 We're Hiring: Occupational Therapist – Vision Rehabilitation 🌟

Join the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) and help adults with vision loss build the skills and confidence to live safely and independently.

This part-time (24 hours/week), community-based role serves clients throughout Greater Boston. You'll provide one-on-one vision rehabilitation services, develop individualized treatment plans, recommend assistive technology and adaptive strategies, and help clients achieve greater independence. No prior vision rehabilitation experience is required—we provide specialized training.

We're looking for candidates with an active Massachusetts OT license, at least two years of related experience, and reliable transportation.

This funding will help older adults with visual disabilities in MetroWest build the skills they need to remain safe and independent at home. Through personalized, in-home services, MABVI's vision rehabilitation occupational therapists provide home safety assessments, medication management support, fall prevention strategies, and training in adaptive techniques and assistive technology that help people navigate daily life with confidence.

We’re grateful to The Gibney Family Foundation for a $50,000 grant supporting MABVI’s social service programs, including the Adjustment to Vision Loss Counseling (AC) program, Peer Empowerment Support Groups (PEP), and Volunteer Services Program (VSP).

The Gibney Family Foundation helped launch our AC program, the only peer-led clinical adjustment counseling program in Massachusetts for people who are blind or visually impaired. Their support helps people build daily living skills, pursue healthy aging goals, and live with greater autonomy and confidence.

Since 2011, The Gibney Family Foundation has awarded $581,600 in grants to support MABVI’s mission. We’re deeply thankful for their longstanding partnership and commitment to our community.

MABVI was proud to participate in the first-ever Digital Navigators Conference at CMA! 🎉

Jennifer and Dave presented during the Tech Accessibility strand, sharing the importance of accessibility and inclusion in technology. Genesis and Lisa represented MABVI at our table, connecting with attendees and sharing information about assistive technology and the many services MABVI offers to support individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

We’re grateful to the hosts and organizers for bringing together organizations from across Massachusetts to advance digital equity and access for all. MABVI is proud to be part of the Alliance for Digital Equity, a statewide coalition working to expand access to broadband, technology, and digital skills throughout the Commonwealth.
