🚓🚒 Two days. Countless hands-on adventures.

Safety Academy gives kids ages 8-10 the chance to learn from local police officers and firefighters while having fun every step of the way. Participants will spray a real fire hose, explore emergency vehicles, practice bike safety, enjoy swimming, and discover important safety skills they can use every day.

August 11-12
8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

$30 residents | $35 non-residents

Registration includes lunch, snacks, a T-shirt, swimming, bike safety activities, and a graduation ceremony.
Register by August 4 at brooklyncentermn.gov/recreation, call 763-569-3400, or stop by the Community Center.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet McKenzie! 🌟
McKenzie is one of the Water Safety Instructors for Brooklyn Center Community Center Aquatics. We asked her to share her story with BCCC Aquatics and why she keeps coming back.

💧What is your story with Brooklyn Center Aquatics?
I took the BCCC reciprocal enrichment at BCHS, I had also done swim lessons all the way up to level 6 before
💧What do you love about working at BCCC Aquatics?
I love the community and being able to teach kids the skills I learned and seeing them grow
💧Favorite Aquatics program or activity?
My favorite aquatics program is the BCCC reciprocal swim lessons because its very welcoming for beginners at the school. I was a student in the program and then got to help teach the middle schoolers as well!
💧What’s your favorite aquatics memory?
My favorite aquatics memory is making new connections with the students and staff and helping students to improve their stroke and skills
💧What have you learned from working at BCCC aquatics?
I learned how to make my own lesson plans as well as learning how to teach my own classes
💧Favorite lifeguard/swimming skill?
My favorite swimming skill is elementary backstroke
💧If you could describe BCCC aquatics in three words, what would they be?
Educational, Encouraging, Positive
💧What advice would you give to someone thinking about working in aquatics?
Have your lesson plans ready before the class, but be prepared for anything to can change
💧What do you hope to take away from your time at BCCC aquatics?
Being able to help students be more comfortable around the water and have them swimming on their own
