The final day of Severe Weather Awareness Week focuses on Extreme Heat.

As summer approaches, so do days of dangerously hot weather. Extreme heat can cause breathing problems, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and even death.

What can you do to stay safe on hot days?
• Check on family, friends, and neighbors
• Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
• Drink water often (even if you’re not thirsty)
• Avoid unnecessary work or strenuous activities
• Stay in a cool, air-conditioned area when possible
• Never leave people or pets in a closed vehicle

For signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke, please refer to the photo below.

As always, stay weather aware!

This week, we would like to say thank you to our Dispatchers at the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office!
They are our community's first line of help.

Not only do they alert us to calls for service, but they also help coordinate additional resources when needed. They serve as a second set of ears during major incidents, relaying critical information to command staff and crews in the field.

Our community appreciates you more than you know—thank you for everything you do!

And Brooklyn Say Hi!

This week, we honor the heroes behind the scenes, the first to answer the call for help, our 911 telecommunicators. Last year, Hennepin County’s 911 telecommunicators answered more than 257,000 emergency calls, over 218,000 non-emergency calls, and responded to 909 texts to 911. Thanks to their skill, dedication, and calm under pressure, help is always just a phone call away. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to public safety and their outstanding service during this National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and every other week too!
