Employment Specialist Job Description

Status: PT = 25% FTE
Reports to: Project Director Hani Hussein
I. Function of position: Under a proposed grant from the ORR and in conjunction with the Project Coordinator, the position will be responsible for outreach and recruitment, case management including for success in Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide Training and goal planning and support, advocacy, group education and support sessions, job readiness training and job coaching, career planning, and referral to and coordinating services with other agencies to integrate refugee resettlement, community integration, and self-sufficiency services.
II. Required qualifications: Bachelors’ Degree in a social services or business field or related field. Four years of experience with demonstrated success in providing case management and resettlement services to refugees and asylees including two or more years of experience with refugees. Knowledge of and ability to work with Pan-African men and women required and two or more years working with Pan-African men and women is desired.
III. Job responsibilities:
1. Works to expand the project’s referral network.
2. Carries out outreach through churches, mosques, and apartment complexes and coordinates referrals with referring agencies.
3. Carries out intake to include determining eligibility under the ORR grant and performing a thorough needs assessment.
4. Provides case management services to African refugee and asylee women including goal plans for services and a nursing career plan.
5. Assists Project Coordinator in developing a Nursing Career Path Resource Directory.
6. Works with clients on an outreach basis building a relationship with them and accompanying them to services while teaching them to take needed steps on their own.
7. Organizes and provides group education and support sessions as well as individual education and support for clients including COVID and other pandemic education and support.
8. Provides employment services including group and one-to-one education and support, and follow-up related to job readiness training, financial literacy training, job search, job referral and application.
9. Coordinates involvement of mentors and tutors in providing support for African refugees and asylees.
10. Supports qualified African men and women to attend a culturally specific 4- week Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Training and assists attendees in gaining and maintaining employment.
11. Maintains careful computerized records of all services and key outcomes measure data that will be entered into the evaluation system.
12. Attends regular supervisory and team meetings.
13. Adheres to all federal requirements of the funder of grant proposal.
Position pays $27 an hour. Employee benefits including health insurance available.
