Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
This May, the Brooklyn Democrats are proud to celebrate the rich history, vibrant cultures, and invaluable contributions of the AAPI community that help make our borough the most diverse and dynamic place in the world. From the bustling streets of Sunset Park to neighborhoods across Brooklyn, the AAPI community is a cornerstone of our progress and our strength.
We are honored to work alongside dedicated Asian American leaders who are championing equity and representation every day. We celebrate the leadership of trailblazers like U.S. Representative Grace Meng, the first Asian American to represent New York in Congress, and State Senator Iwen Chu, Brooklyn’s first Asian American state senator. We also salute the tireless work of leaders like Assemblymember Grace Lee, and City Council Member Susan Zhuang.
Our strength also comes from the grassroots, and we are proud to acknowledge our AAPI District Leaders who serve as the vital link between our party and the community: Nancy Tong (AD 47), Larry He (AD 47), Tony Ying Ko (AD 49), Joyce Xiaoqiong Xie (AD 49), and Aaron Ouyang (AD 52). Together with countless local advocates and organizers, they ensure the AAPI community’s voice is heard at every level of government.
This month, we don't just celebrate history—we recommit to the fight against hate, the expansion of language access, and the support of AAPI-owned small businesses. Let’s continue to build a Brooklyn where everyone belongs!
