Take 5 minutes to tell the local merchant leaders what you think about Fulton St. For seven months now, 14 local businesses and other stakeholders have been meeting to talk about how to make Fulton Street a more inviting place for pedestrians to eat and shop. To help our community recover from COVID, it's going to take all of us, and they want to hear from you, so take 5 minutes to complete this short survey.
We would like to thank Bello Travel for their donation in motivation to get our residents to complete the survey.

Work, Learn & Grow program located in Cypress Hills. Our program is built to help teenagers in high school develop their work readiness skills through college courses and internships. Our participants are reaching the final stretch of their college courses and are now looking for businesses to work with.

We are reaching out to see if you would be interested in partnering with us for internship opportunities for our participants. We have participants that are tech-savvy and outgoing, which would be beneficial for a social media marketing team. We will organize a group of students that will be supervised by our staff in order to create and implement a social media marketing plan for your business.

Our participants are aware that given the current circumstances with COVID, they can either be given an opportunity to work in person, remotely, or hybrid. Our participants, ages 16-19, are expected to work from December 21st until March 12th. If this is of interest to you and your business, please let us know by December 14th . Feel free to email [email protected]

TELL THE MAYOR TO SAVE EDUCATION, HOUSING & YOUTH PROGRAMS IN EAST NEW YORK

Call to action: Sign this petition to tell Mayor de Blasio to stand up for East New York!

#NYCBudgetJustice #FundYouthNYC #SaveBasementPilot #SaveStudentSuccessCenters

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened existing inequities in housing, food insecurity, joblessness, evictions, education, and so much more. Now, the City’s budget is up for review, and the City and State are likely to cut even more programs that benefit East New York. Help us call on Mayor de Blasio to demand that he invests in and advocates for communities like East New York and Cypress Hills.

Background: Mayor de Blasio has already made significant cuts to education, youth and human services programs while the NYPD budget remains at over $5 billion. The current budget reduced funding for youth services by $87 million and education funding by $707 million. The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s capital budget for affordable housing was reduced by $498 million. And the City keeps paying out claims for police misconduct - - in FY 19, there were 5,848 claims made against the New York City Police Department, resulting in $220.1 million in settlements (comptroller.nyc.gov)

Now once again, we are at risk of losing even more funding for our Student Success Centers, the Basement Apartment Conversion Pilot Program, Community Schools, and more. Cutting these programs will result in a reduction in supportive resources that are integral to the development and education of our young people and for the overall safety and health of our neighborhood.

The current budget is up for review in early November. If Mayor de Blasio fails to restore these critical programs or cuts them further, our community’s livelihood and well-being are at stake.

We are demanding that Mayor de Blasio shift funding from the NYPD, and redistribute that funding to services that foster health and safety for our communities, such as housing, education, and youth and human services.

NYC Small Business Resource Network

We are proud to announce the launch of the NYC Small Business Resource Network — a city-wide initiative to bring technical assistance and business recovery support to NYC small businesses through the chambers of commerce in each borough. This unique public-private partnership is a collaboration with the Partnership for New York City (PNYC), the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and is funded by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

The NYC Small Business Resource Network will be able to assist with a wide range of business challenges. Our on-the-ground Small Business Support Specialists will help guide businesses to the resources they need. The Network will also focus on minority, women and immigrant-owned businesses given the challenges that these businesses face in accessing the resources and support necessary to survive.

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce will house a total of six Small Business Support Specialists, including one that will focus exclusively on the restaurant industry. We have also established a new online clearinghouse that will leverage a vast network of business, academic and philanthropic leaders to offer small businesses free expert services including volunteer mentors, technical assistance providers, as well as sources of loans and grants, procurement opportunities, marketing, technology, real estate, legal and accounting services.

This model is first designed at the Brooklyn Chamber, will now be implemented city-wide. Please feel free to direct any small businesses to the NYC Small Business Resource Network website at https://www.nycsmallbusinessresourcenetwork.org/ or they can contact us directly at [email protected]

The NYC Small Business Resource Network is a comprehensive approach to strengthening New York City’s economy and accelerating the recovery of small businesses — starting with personalized guidance and recovery resources.
