#WelcomeWednesday | Please join us in welcoming Chief Warrant Officer 4 Veronica Roberts, the new Senior Legal Administrator for the 16th Legal Operations Detachment! She shares a little about herself below:

Native of: Seattle, WA

Role (Position title) and Years in profession: Senior Legal Administrator, 16th Legal Operations Detachment, 30 years in the JAG Corps, 22 years as a Warrant Officer/Legal Administrator

What military branch are you in & what is your # of years in service: Army- 32 years of service

Why did you choose Fort Hamilton?: While I did not choose Ft Hamilton, I was and am glad that it was chosen for me. What a great opportunity to live in such an exciting part of our country. Since my arrival I have discovered that NY is grossly overlooked for its beauty. How lucky am I to live right here on Ft Hamilton in the center of that beauty.

What value do you intend to bring to Fort Hamilton community?: I intent to infect Ft Hamilton with joy and smiles. I am currently trying to assemble a mini tennis tournament. The Fort Hamilton Open 😀

What are you most proud or enjoy most in life overall?: Being a mother has been the most rewarding thing I have done in my life. Being a grandmother is close to eclipsing that.

SGM Carol M. Stripling-Reynolds (photo included) was my first leader when I joined the USAR. It is because of her impeccable and stellar leadership that PV2 Roberts grew up to become CW5 Roberts.

Proud New Yorker with global influence

Proud Puerto Rican and native New Yorker, Command Sergeant Major Alberto Delgado, CSM for U.S. Army Materiel Command, visited Fort Hamilton and took a moment share some perspective. He coincidentally showed up at the kick off of Hispanic Heritage month. CSM Delgado’s success at a global level in the Army is testimony of the tremendous contributions of Hispanics and unlimited opportunities through service in the Army.

Fort Hamilton shares hope at Community Vigil on 9/11

“The shared experience of September 11 unified Americans and inspired many to join the military,” said Col. Craig Martin, Fort Hamilton Garrison Commander.

“Every day, we are proud of the young men and women who start the process to serve their country at Fort Hamilton. The greatest thing we can ever do for one another is to serve. Regardless if it’s in the military, as first responder or doctor or simply lending a hand to a neighbor. We are best when we stand in support of each other. We can hold those we lost in our hearts, be inspired by the resilience of our neighbors and honor their memory through service.” #WeRemember911 #NeverForget #whyweserve

On this 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, we reflect on and pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and all who sacrificed their lives in defense of America and freedom. Fort Hamilton leadership team (COL Craig Martin, CSM Michael McCabe and Deputy to the Garrison Commander Mr. Charles Walker) visited our local firehouses to show support to our valued partners, FDNY.

We honor our first responders. They ran towards danger, and their dedication, courage and bravery saved many lives. #neverforget #WeRemember911

9/11: Fort Hamilton Never Forgets

Fort Hamilton hosted a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Community Club today to honor the victims and first responders of the terrorist attacks on America 20 years ago.

“When we got to the Trade Center, me and the members of Rescue 5 realized the devastation that we were about to encounter,” said FDNY Firefighter Joseph Esposito, today's keynote speaker.

We bid farewell to our Youth Center Director, Roy Halvorson, as he enters a new chapter of his life.

“It has been an honor to serve military families at Fort Hamilton and across New York City! I also come from an Army family, so it’s been incredibly rewarding supporting the Army mission through MWR, wherever I was. My unique experiences as an “Army Brat” definitely shaped my professionalism and passion as a Youth Center Director. I thank every single person who helped me create wonderful experiences at CYS. This led us to effectively support and empower the next generation of military children, youth, and families! My time at Fort Hamilton inspired me to pursue graduate school for clinical & military psychology, where I will continue to serve our U.S. military at Columbia University’s Resilience Center for Veterans and Families. -Roy”

We wish you all the best Roy, and we thank you for all that you've done for us!

USAG Fort Hamilton and US Army Recruiting NYC hosted the 2021 annual Women's Equality Day observance, Aug. 31, which recognized the passage of the 19th Amendment to the constitution which guaranteed American women the equal right to vote.

The inspiring day provided an opportunity to celebrate women and their contributions to society and hear "Army Stories" from those who served in outstanding ways. We thank guest speakers retired Col. Mary Westmoreland and Ms. Lorraine West, a veteran who served in the 2nd Infantry during the Korea Conflict, for sharing their experiences during their time in service. Recording Artist Ms. Michelle Dellafave treated the guests to song as she did during her time touring with the Bob Hope USO tours.

You can relive the experience on the Recruiting Battalion's FB page.

In support of our mission to increase awareness of initiatives and resources to reduce su***de, we recognize September as Su***de Prevention Month. This year's theme for Su***de Prevention Month 2021 is “Connect to Protect--Support is Within Reach.” This theme highlights how social connections and a sense of belonging serve as protective factors against su***de.

Every Soldier, Civilian, and Family member can play a part in su***de prevention by understanding the signs and symptoms of at-risk behavior and encouraging and connecting with those in distress with those who can help. Sources of help include unit Leaders, Chaplains, Army Community Services counselors, and behavioral health specialists.

The National Su***de Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-8255 and provides confidential support. The Lifeline is available 24 hours in English and Spanish. Below is a 30-Day Connect To Protect Challenge that you can use either in your office setting or home. It challenges you to do some things that you may have forgotten to do with all that has been going on in the past 2 years. Check it out, it might make you sit back and think a little bit.
